The Aerosmith van was found in the woods in Chesterfield, Massachusetts, identified by former band member Ray Tabano, and bought by American Pickers hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz for $25,000. After episodes documented its preservation and overhaul, the restored van was reunited with Aerosmith. The sources available do not establish where it is now or who owns it.
How the van was found and identified
According to HISTORY’s account, a Massachusetts property owner named Phil and his son pulled the vehicle from the dirt on their Chesterfield property. It was a 1964 International Harvester Metro van. Former Aerosmith member Ray Tabano came to see it and recognized it from the band’s early years, using his memories and photographs to confirm the connection.
Tabano recalled the van as more than transportation: the band lived in it at times, using it as a dressing room and, in his words, “like a rolling hotel.” HISTORY also notes that an early design on the vehicle spelled out the band’s name. Tabano described the passage of time this way: “I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing.”
What the Pickers did with it
HISTORY reports that Wolfe and Frank Fritz bought the van for $25,000. That is the reported price paid at the time, not a current valuation. Wolfe called it “a piece of American rock ‘n’ roll history.”

The story continued across two American Pickers episodes listed by HISTORY: “Rock’n’Roll Heaven,” dated March 11, 2019, covered preserving Aerosmith’s original tour van; “Pick This Way,” dated March 18, 2019, followed an overhaul ahead of a visit from the band. The listing describes those episodes but does not provide enough technical detail to characterize the restoration methods or identify a restoration provider.
The van was reunited with Aerosmith
CBS Boston reported that the restored vehicle was revealed to Aerosmith. Steven Tyler reacted to the handoff: “To find the damn thing and bring it to us – what a hand-off!” The reunion is the last clear outcome established by these accounts.

Where is the Aerosmith van now?
The available accounts confirm its discovery, identification, purchase, restoration-related episodes and reunion with the band, but they do not say who owns it today, where it is currently kept, whether it is on public display, or whether it was later sold. It would be unsupported to claim that Aerosmith still owns it or that it is displayed at a particular museum.
