Netflix’s season-3 update still described him as single and working at the hotel. In April 2026, Tanner explained that he did not want a serious relationship or marriage yet, wanted to travel and pursue other dreams, and chose not to return as a dater for season 4.
What Tanner said after season 2
Netflix’s post-season update said Tanner was doing well, working at The Shepherd Hotel and living with his roommate, Frankie, in Clemson, South Carolina. Tanner said he was not dating anyone and was content being single for the time being.
His connection with Kate did not become a romance. Tanner described her as a very good friend; they texted and met up with friends after Christmas to see the zoo lights in Columbia, South Carolina. Season 2, whose seven episodes premiered January 19, 2024, followed Tanner on a first date with Kate, but the update framed their continuing connection as friendship. Netflix’s season guide lists the episode release date.
What changed after season 3?
In an April 10, 2025 update, Netflix still described Tanner as single and working at The Shepherd Hotel. He talked about forming friendships, including “a lot of really good lady friends,” and singled out his sister Midge as one of his best friends who helps him through hard days. He also credited friends and roommates with offering dating advice, and said he felt lucky with or without romantic love.

Tanner’s season-3 dates with Callie also did not lead to a relationship. TV Insider’s Swooon report said they remained friends and in touch after the season, rather than becoming a couple.
Why Tanner did not return as a dater for season 4
On April 2, 2026, Tanner said in an Instagram video, as quoted by Us Weekly, that he was not ready for a serious relationship or marriage. He said he wanted to travel and pursue his big dreams, and did not think it would be fair or honest to be on a dating show when he was not ready to be someone’s boyfriend.

The latest cited update on Tanner’s job is Netflix’s April 2025 account, which said he was still working at the hotel then. His April 2026 statement explains why he did not return as a dater, but does not establish his relationship status after that point. The available updates therefore do not confirm whether he still works at the hotel or whether his personal circumstances have since changed.
