There is no verified report in the sources reviewed of a specific event involving Steve Perry’s daughter. Perry has acknowledged having a child and grandchildren, but has chosen not to share identifying details. The claim that a woman named Shamila is his daughter remains unconfirmed speculation.
What happened to Steve Perry’s daughter?
No reliable account in the available reporting establishes that Perry’s daughter disappeared, died, became estranged from him, or experienced another particular event. The wording of the question can suggest a known incident, but the reporting does not support that implication.

The clearest public explanation is Perry’s decision to keep his family life private. In a 2018 Rolling Stone interview, he declined to discuss his children, saying, “I don’t want to talk about [kids].” He explained: “There’s a private part of my life that I won’t have if I talk about it.”
Does Steve Perry have a daughter?
A secondary account of Perry’s 2019 interview with Dan Rather reports that he acknowledged having a child and grandchildren, while declining to give details to protect his child. The original interview was not available in the reporting reviewed here, so that acknowledgment is best described as secondary-source reporting rather than quoted directly.
#1 Best Overall
The identity of Perry’s child is not established in the sources reviewed. His public refusal to discuss the subject is not evidence of a family dispute or other event.
Is Shamila Steve Perry’s daughter?
No confirmation supports that identification. Rolling Stone described the claim that a woman named Shamila was Perry’s daughter as speculation by “Internet sleuths”; the article did not verify it. Online repetition of the claim does not make it a confirmed biographical fact.

Does Perry’s Journey history explain the question?
No. CBS’s 2018 coverage described Perry’s departure from Journey in relation to his heart, an injured hip, and pressure to undergo surgery. It also reported that he returned to recording after grieving his partner, Kellie Nash. Those are separate career and personal-history details; they do not establish anything about his daughter.
