What happened to Sherri Papini legally?
Papini pleaded guilty to mail fraud and making false statements. In September 2022, she was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. TIME reported that the court also ordered her to repay about $300,000 for losses associated with the California victim compensation fund, disability payments, and search-related costs.

According to TIME, Papini served 10 months and 21 days before being released to a halfway house in October 2023. She was therefore no longer in federal prison after that release, though the available information here does not establish her current living situation or legal status beyond that point.

Keith Papini filed for divorce after Sherri Papini’s confession. TIME reports their marriage was dissolved in May 2023.
In March 2024, TIME reported that Papini had one-hour visits with the children, supervised by a professional agency appointed by a judge. That is a dated account; it does not confirm the current custody or visitation arrangement.
Did Sherri Papini publish the books she said she was writing?
TIME reported in June 2024 that Papini told her daughter she was writing two books. That report establishes a stated plan, not that either book was completed, published, or available to buy.
