A report published in 2023 by Hindustan Times, drawing on an interview with People, said Barshop was diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma in 2022. It reported that she underwent chemotherapy and an autologous stem cell transplant, and that she had been declared cancer-free in August 2022 before the transplant.
