How the Salahis became known beyond the show
In November 2009, Michaele and Tareq Salahi entered a White House state dinner despite not being on the guest list. ABC News reported that the Secret Service was investigating how they got in. White House officials said, “It’s clear they weren’t on the list and weren’t invited.” That reporting described an investigation, not a final finding about the couple’s legal liability. In 2010, the couple appeared on The Real Housewives of D.C., which Bravo described as following the cast’s personal lives in Washington. Their fame from the series was therefore closely tied to the earlier White House incident, rather than being a story that began with the show alone.
What happened when Michaele left Tareq in 2011?
In September 2011, Tareq reported Michaele missing and raised the possibility that she had been kidnapped. Authorities told ABC News that a deputy spoke with her in Memphis. The sheriff’s office said she had left with a friend and was where she wanted to be. ABC quoted the office’s account: “She seemed calm, was engaged in conversation, and assured the deputy that she had left the residence with a good friend and was where she wanted to be.”

Officials’ account matters: the public missing-person report became a dispute, but the reporting said Michaele was safe and in Memphis voluntarily. It does not support describing her as abducted. ABC News’ September 2011 account covers the report and authorities’ response.
When did Tareq file for divorce?
Tareq filed for divorce in Warren County, Virginia, on September 16 or 17, 2011, according to contemporaneous reports. His filing said the relationship was beyond reconciliation. That was his claim in a divorce filing, not an independently established fact or a court finding. CBS News reported on the filing.
Did Michaele marry Journey guitarist Neal Schon?
Yes. Bravo’s May 13, 2024 retrospective reported that Michaele had divorced Tareq and married Journey guitarist Neal Schon. It also reported that former castmate Mary Amons tried to reconnect with Michaele in 2020, but Michaele blocked her; that detail is Amons’s account as reported by Bravo, not an independently confirmed account from Michaele. The latest cited update here is Bravo’s May 2024 retrospective. It establishes that Michaele later married Schon, but it does not give a comprehensive account of either Salahi’s current work, residence, or day-to-day life. The available reporting therefore answers the central question about what followed the show and the 2011 split, but does not establish what either former spouse is doing in 2026.
