Bubba the Love Sponge’s SiriusXM contract ended in late 2010, and he did not renew. A January 2011 report said SiriusXM had offered him an 80% pay cut and that he chose to walk away; the company’s public announcement did not disclose the private contract terms. The show later established a digital presence and is now promoted as a podcast on its official site.
Why did Bubba the Love Sponge leave SiriusXM?
The reported explanation was a contract dispute. In January 2011, TheStreet reported that Bubba’s contract expired at the end of 2010 and that SiriusXM had offered him an 80% salary reduction. The article attributes the account to Bubba and quotes him saying, “With me, it was a take it or leave it offer. We decided to leave it.”
That 80% figure is a reported account of the offer, not a term confirmed in a publicly released contract. SiriusXM’s announcement of Bubba’s earlier deal did not disclose the later negotiations, so it is more accurate to describe his departure as a reported non-renewal than as a confirmed firing.
What was Bubba’s SiriusXM deal?
On December 19, 2008, Sirius XM announced a multi-year agreement for Bubba to continue hosting his weekday show on Howard 101. The company listed the schedule as Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET, and Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. In the announcement, Bubba said, “I will continue the radio revolution with Howard Stern on SIRIUS XM.”

The public announcement establishes the earlier agreement and schedule, but not the terms of the contract that expired two years later. On December 15, 2010, a Howard Stern show rundown quoted Bubba discussing a possible next contract conditionally: “If we get one, we’ll save all that money.” That remark shows the renewal was uncertain shortly before the reported contract end; it does not reveal the negotiation terms.

The show did not disappear permanently. Its official site now presents it as a podcast. Bubba Army HQ lists BTLS show episodes as well as archive and membership access. Those official pages confirm a current digital presence, but they do not document every broadcast or platform in the period immediately after SiriusXM.
