She played Katie, the female lead of the original pilot, which was never broadcast. When the pilot was reworked, the role became Penny and was cast with Kaley Cuoco. Walsh has since worked as an actor and writer, according to published credit listings, but the public record says little about her current activity.

Co-creator Bill Prady identified the actress in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment about the series and its unseen pilot. His words were: “The actress was Amanda Walsh, and she did a great job playing that character.”
How the female role became Penny
The official The Big Bang Theory podcast listing says Chuck Lorre and former Warner Bros. Television Group chairman Peter Roth revisit the original unaired pilot and explain why they recast Penny. TVLine likewise describes the character as revised from Katie to Penny. The podcast description does not spell out the reasoning itself, so the explanation sits with the episode rather than the listing.
