By the reunion special, the show described them as no longer speaking and recounted a heated argument during a New York press tour. Flavor Flav later called Nielsen “real love,” but the public accounts do not establish every private reason the relationship ended or its exact breakup date.
How Brigitte Nielsen and Flavor Flav met
The two met while filming the third season of VH1’s The Surreal Life, which aired in 2004. Flavor Flav later recalled meeting Nielsen on the set in a 2011 interview with The Daily Beast. A later retrospective by Complex also places the beginning of their relationship during that season.
How the relationship continued on television
VH1 made their romance the focus of Strange Love, a 2005 spin-off following the relationship introduced on The Surreal Life. Apple TV’s series description presents it as a continuation of that romance.
What the reunion special said happened
The reunion episode’s synopsis says Nielsen and Flavor Flav last met at the VH1 Big In ’04 awards in Los Angeles and had not spoken since. It also recounts an argument during their New York press tour: Nielsen was left in the hotel suite while Flavor Flav left. This is the program’s account of the conflict; an episode synopsis does not independently verify the couple’s private interactions.

How Flavor Flav later described the relationship
Asked in The Daily Beast’s 2011 interview whether Nielsen had been real love, Flavor Flav replied, “Yeah, Brigitte was real love and everything.” That is his retrospective description; it does not establish that Nielsen shared the same view.
