Gracie Piscopo posted a video captioned “healing and moving on” one day after her former partner, Andre Rebelo, was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his mother, Colleen. PerthNow described the video’s soundtrack as cryptic; the report does not establish Piscopo’s intent or what the song meant.
What did Gracie Piscopo post after Andre Rebelo was jailed?
In a report published on 3 April 2025, PerthNow said Piscopo shared a video the day after Rebelo’s sentencing. The outlet reported that its caption read “healing and moving on” and described the soundtrack as cryptic. The video included clips of Piscopo crying, along with moments with her son and current partner. Those are PerthNow’s descriptions of the post; they do not establish why she shared it or what she intended the soundtrack to convey. PerthNow’s report
What was Andre Rebelo sentenced for?
Rebelo was convicted of murdering his mother, Colleen, and on 1 April 2025 was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years. Reporting on the sentence, ABC News said Justice Bruno Fiannaca described the offence as premeditated and financially motivated. Fiannaca said: “You killed her for a financial motive, it was a premeditated offence, a monstrous act that was integral to a fraudulent scheme which you intended to profit from life insurance policies taken out by you.” ABC News’s sentencing report
How the case unfolded
- May 2020: Colleen Rebelo died. Her body was found in the shower at her home in Bicton. ABC News reported that the cause of death could not be determined. ABC News’s trial report
- December 2024: After an eight-week trial in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, a jury found Andre Rebelo guilty of murdering his mother. The prosecution’s case concerned the killing and life-insurance policies taken out on Colleen; those prosecution claims should be distinguished from the jury’s verdict. Piscopo, Rebelo’s former partner, testified at trial. The available reporting does not establish wrongdoing by her.
- 1 April 2025: Rebelo received a life sentence with a 25-year minimum.
- 2 April 2025: According to PerthNow’s 3 April report, Piscopo posted the video a day after sentencing—not a day after the December 2024 verdict.
- 18 June 2026: The West Australian reported that an appeal date had been set. That report establishes scheduling, not the appeal’s eventual outcome. The West Australian’s appeal report
What is known about the appeal?
The West Australian reported in June 2026 that an appeal date had been set. The available report does not establish whether the appeal was later heard or its outcome, so no conclusion about the conviction’s status after that scheduling report can be drawn here.
