Gege Akutami’s longer farewell to Jujutsu Kaisen is reflective and self-critical, but it does not call fans toxic or say harassment prompted the message. It also is not the same as the short note published when the manga ended: the two messages appeared in different contexts and have different meanings.
There were two different “final messages”
Jujutsu Kaisen began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018 and ended with chapter 271 in the September 30, 2024 issue, according to ORICON NEWS and the VIZ Media catalog. The phrase “final message” can refer to a brief note published with the ending or to a longer reflection reported later from the Japanese final volume.

What Akutami’s chapter 271 note said
In ComicBook.com’s September 30, 2024 report, the chapter-ending note is translated as: “We’ve reach the end. Thank you all for your support!! I’ll keep doing my best with my future works.” The wording here preserves the report’s English rendering, including its apparent grammatical error; it is not presented as an authorized English translation. The message is a concise thank-you and look ahead, not the longer reflection associated with the final volume. (ComicBook.com)
What the longer final-volume reflection said
ComicBook.com reported in December 2024 that the Japanese final volume included a more personal message about Akutami’s nearly six-and-a-half years working on the manga. Its English excerpts are secondary translations, not an independently verified official English version.

Self-criticism and absentmindedness
Akutami described learning, over the course of serialization, “I really am an idiot…” He also said that after about three years of serialization he had become absentminded, and reflected on making mistakes and relying on instinct. The report translates one passage as: “The reason I did not talk much in between the volumes was because I had become absentminded.” (ComicBook.com)
Concern about readers hurting one another
In another passage, Akutami wrote about trying to consider readers who might feel hurt by Jujutsu Kaisen, as well as people who might be hurt by those who read it. The translated excerpt is long and its wording may depend on translation, but its central point is that he was thinking about the effects of the work and of interactions among readers.
Rank #2
The same report quotes Akutami describing an inner rebuke: “Shut up! I get it, you just want to be seen as a good person!!” He says that reaction led him to stop trying to write with that aim and to recognize his pride and lack of conviction. Read in context, this is self-examination; it does not name abusive fans or attribute his feelings to harassment.
Did Gege call out toxic JJK fans?
No. The reported final-volume passages do not label the fandom toxic, identify particular fans, or establish that abuse caused Akutami’s reflections. His comment about people being hurt by other readers shows concern about the possibility of harm, but it is not evidence about how widespread such behavior was or who was responsible.

Criticism of a story’s ending—even when forceful or unfair—is not automatically harassment. The available reporting does not provide a representative measure of fan conduct, so it cannot support a broad judgment about Jujutsu Kaisen fans as a group. Calling the message a reminder that fans can behave badly is an interpretation of its themes, not a documented explanation from Akutami.

ORICON reported that the manga concluded after six and a half years and had exceeded 100 million copies in circulation, including digital editions, as of its September 2024 report. That is a reported circulation figure at that time, not a live sales total. ORICON also reported that issue 44 of Weekly Shonen Jump included a commemorative postcard with a handwritten Akutami message and a new illustration. (ORICON NEWS)

For readers who want to revisit the work, VIZ lists Jujutsu Kaisen, Vol. 30 as the final volume and also catalogs the complete box set. Those listings confirm the official editions, not their current stock or price. (VIZ Media)
