On 15 May 2024, Kyle Sandilands learned live on the Kyle and Jackie O Show that his step-sister’s daughter had given birth to a baby girl, Aria. He said he had not known she was pregnant, making the message a surprise.
What news did Kyle Sandilands share?
During the 15 May 2024 broadcast, Sandilands read a text message announcing: “Miss Aria was born to Sammie and Nick at 3:58 this morning.” Jackie Henderson replied, “Oh, you’re an uncle,” and Sandilands responded, “Oh, little Aria, how sweet.” 7NEWS reported the exchange; The Nightly also covered it.
How is the baby related to him?
According to Sandilands’ description on air, Aria is the child of his step-sister’s adopted daughter. He called himself the newborn’s great-uncle, explaining: “I’m the great uncle of my step-sister’s adopted children’s child. That’s family, in any way shape or form”. The relationship here is the one he described in the reported broadcast; the news accounts do not independently establish further family details.
Why was the announcement a surprise?
Sandilands said he did not know his step-sister’s daughter was pregnant. In the exchange reported by 7NEWS, he said: “I didn’t even know her kid was pregnant, so that’s quite the surprise … my sister is 60.” The surprise was his lack of prior knowledge, rather than a separate announcement about his own immediate household.
