The “murder plot” phrase in the headline refers to Gilbert’s reported account of contemplating killing her partner, Rayya Elias—not to a murder that occurred.
What is *All the Way to the River* about?
Gilbert’s memoir recounts her relationship with Elias, who died of cancer in 2018, and the crisis surrounding Elias’s return to substance use. Northeastern Global News reports that Gilbert describes enabling Elias and, at one point, contemplating killing her. According to that account, Gilbert did not act on the thought and reached out for help. These are details of Gilbert’s account as reported by Northeastern, not an independent legal finding. The book’s publisher presents it as a memoir about love, loss, addiction and liberation. Its emotional territory also includes caregiving and codependency, as discussed in Northeastern’s coverage. The headline’s dramatic wording should not obscure that distinction between a contemplated act and a completed crime.

What does “murder plot” mean here?
It describes Gilbert’s reported contemplation of killing Elias during a difficult period involving substance use and Gilbert’s own enabling behavior. Northeastern’s account says she did not carry out the plan and sought help. The available reporting supports describing this as a crisis Gilbert recounts—not saying that a murder took place or presenting the phrase as a verified criminal case.
