EJAE used her Golden Globes acceptance speech to describe years of rejection on the way to becoming a singer and songwriter—and to dedicate the award to people who have faced closed doors. “Golden,” from KPop Demon Hunters, won Best Original Song – Motion Picture at the 83rd Golden Globes on January 11, 2026.
What did EJAE say at the Golden Globes?
EJAE recalled spending 10 years pursuing her childhood dream of becoming a K-pop idol. She said she was rejected because people felt her voice was not good enough, and that she leaned on songs and music to cope. Netflix quoted her saying, “So now, I’m here as a singer and a songwriter, it’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone from all ages get through their hardship and to accept themselves.” Netflix’s post-ceremony report provides the quoted remarks.

She dedicated the win to people who have had doors closed on them. ABC News quoted her closing line: “I can confidently say rejection is redirection.” Marie Claire reported a longer version that concludes, “it’s never too late to shine like you were born to be.” The outlets render parts of the speech differently, so these excerpts should not be treated as one continuous transcript. ABC News and Marie Claire report the closing remarks.
Why was EJAE emotional during the speech?
Her remarks connected the award to a difficult personal chapter: the years she spent trying to become an idol and the rejection she said she experienced over her voice. She then described “Golden” as meaningful because it can help listeners through hardship and toward self-acceptance. Reports characterized the speech as emotional, but the central point is what she said about rejection, music, and perseverance—not a claim that she literally “broke down.” The Golden Globes ceremony video shows the acceptance speech.
