Frontier Touring had teased news for 4pm AEST (2pm in Western Australia; 6pm in New Zealand), but no cities had yet been confirmed. Ed Sheeran announced the Australia and New Zealand Loop Tour later that day. Its dates ran from 16 January to 5 March 2026 and have now passed.
What did Ed Sheeran announce?
Sheeran announced a return to Australia and New Zealand in 2026 with the Loop Tour. ABC News reported that the show would focus on the loop pedal, a device that records musical phrases and plays them back repeatedly, allowing a performer to build layers of sound live.
Sheeran described the refreshed production as “new stage, new tricks, new set, new songs, old songs.” He also said, “The first place I was accepted as a musician and loved outside of the United Kingdom was Australia.” Both quotations were reported by ABC News on 22 July 2025.
Which cities were on the announced route?
The announced route included Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. Frontier Touring’s official tour FAQ lists dates beginning in Auckland on 16 January 2026 and ending in Adelaide on 5 March 2026. These are historical dates, not upcoming performances.

Was the teased time for the announcement or ticket sales?
It was the time for the announcement. The initial tease did not mean tickets would go on sale at that same moment: announcing a tour and opening ticket sales are separate steps. The later promoter notice covered added dates and ticket information. Contemporary coverage by PerthNow on 22 July 2025 captured fans asking whether the teased moment meant the tour would be announced or tickets would be released.

How did the tour compare with Sheeran’s earlier Australian visits?
Figures reported around the announcement describe earlier tours, not attendance or ticket sales for the 2026 Loop Tour.
| Figure | What it refers to | Source and scope |
|---|---|---|
| 110,000 and 108,000 attendees | The two Melbourne Cricket Ground shows in March 2023 | ABC News, reporting in 2025 |
| More than one million tickets | The 2018 Divide Tour across Australia and New Zealand | ABC News, reporting in 2025 |
| More than 2.5 million tickets | Sheeran’s cumulative Australia and New Zealand sales “to date” | Frontier Touring, 2025; a promoter-reported cumulative figure, not sales for the Loop Tour alone |
What were the ticketing arrangements?
The promoter’s FAQ assigned authorised ticket agencies by city: AXS for Auckland, Christchurch and Brisbane; Ticketek for Wellington, Sydney and Adelaide; Ticketmaster for Perth and Melbourne. Tickets for the 2026 shows were mobile-app only. Frontier Touring warned that it could not guarantee tickets bought outside the authorised agency and that unauthorised resale could lead to cancellation or denied entry. These details describe the past tour; the official FAQ is the source for its event-specific terms.

The FAQ classified the shows as licensed all-ages events but also set venue-specific supervision and age conditions. Those conditions varied by venue and are not current event rules. Ticket prices were likewise specific to each show and category, and do not indicate present availability or pricing.
Why was it called the Loop Tour?
The name refers to the loop pedal’s role in Sheeran’s performance: he records a musical phrase, plays it in a continuous loop, and can add further parts over it. That makes a solo performance sound fuller without requiring the phrase to be replayed manually each time. The reporting identifies a device category, not a particular brand or model.
