But her August 2024 reflection was not a simple rejection of the shoot: she described it as art and said she still did not judge it.
Why did Drew Barrymore reflect on the photos?
In an August 2024 Instagram post titled “PHONE HOME,” Barrymore reflected on growing up around adult environments, the shame she associated with that experience, and her wish to protect her daughters from excessive digital access. The Playboy shoot was part of that wider reflection, rather than the sole focus.
As reproduced by AOL and People, she wrote: “But when I did a chaste artistic moment in Playboy in my early 20s, I thought it would be a magazine that was unlikely to resurface because it was paper.” She added: “I never knew there would be an internet. I didn’t know so many things.”
Did she say she regretted the Playboy photos?
Reports described her post as regretful, particularly in light of her expectation that the print magazine would be unlikely to resurface. However, the reported wording is more nuanced than a straightforward disavowal. AOL and People also quoted her saying, “I thought of it as art, and I still do not judge it.”

The original Instagram post was not directly available to verify here; the quotations are reproduced in the reports.
When did Barrymore pose for Playboy?
Barrymore posed for Playboy’s January 1995 issue. Retrospective coverage places the shoot shortly before her 20th birthday, making her 19 at the time. The reports thus support the age in the headline, even though Barrymore’s quoted post refers to the experience as happening in her “early 20s.”
