Donald Trump’s most notable public remarks about Taylor Swift have ranged from a 2024 prediction about her political endorsement to the blunt Truth Social post “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” and two further jabs in 2025. Here is a dated account of the salient reported comments and the events around them; it is not a transcript of every passing reference.
What Trump said before Swift’s 2024 endorsement
November 2023 and February 2024: praise, then a political prediction
TIME’s retrospective says Trump praised Swift’s appearance in a conversation in November 2023. In February 2024, he claimed credit for the 2018 Music Modernization Act and argued that Swift would not endorse Joe Biden’s reelection campaign. TIME quoted his Truth Social post: “There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.” TIME’s retrospective is the source for this earlier post.
How the false endorsement images and Swift’s endorsement fit together
August 2024: “I accept!”
In August 2024, Trump reposted images that purported to show Swift and her fans supporting his presidential campaign, adding “I accept!” At least some of the images appeared to be AI-generated, and the implication that Swift had endorsed him was false. Axios reported that Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung disputed the claim that Trump had accepted an endorsement or said Swift had endorsed him. Axios describes the images and campaign response.
September 10, 2024: Swift endorses Harris and Walz
Swift subsequently endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, writing, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.” The endorsement made clear that the August images did not reflect her position. CBS News reports the endorsement and Trump’s response.

The Washington Post reported about 338,000 visits to Vote.gov within 15 hours of the endorsement; CBS News reported 405,999 visits over the following day. Those are traffic counts for different time windows, not evidence by themselves of a change in voter behavior or an election result. The Washington Post’s figure and CBS News’ figure should not be treated as identical measurements.
Trump’s remarks after Swift endorsed Harris and Walz
September 11, 2024: comments in a Fox & Friends interview
In a Fox & Friends interview the day after Swift’s endorsement, Trump called her “a very liberal person,” said he liked Brittany Mahomes better, and said Swift would “probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” The remark was about her political choice; the cited reporting does not establish that the endorsement changed her popularity or commercial performance. TIME recounts the interview.

September 15, 2024: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Four days after the interview, Trump posted on Truth Social: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” CBS News and The Washington Post connected the post to Swift’s endorsement of Harris. CBS News reports on the post and The Washington Post places it in the endorsement’s aftermath.

February 9, 2025: the Super Bowl
Swift attended Super Bowl LIX, where the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. Trump posted: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium, MAGA is very unforgiving.” TIME documented the post and event, and Trump’s Truth Social archive records the February 9 post. TIME’s account provides the event context.

May 16, 2025: a comment about her popularity
Trump posted: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’” The post asserted a link between his earlier statement and Swift’s popularity; the cited reporting does not establish that claim as fact. The wording and date are recorded in Trump’s archived post.
May 19, 2025: the White House press secretary responds
Asked about the remarks, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said: “He is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work. And I will leave it at that.” This was Leavitt’s explanation, not a statement by Trump. CBS News reports her response.
