What Does Nick Cannon Eat? His Diet, From 2012 to 2026

Nick Cannon has described different eating habits at different points in his life. After a 2012 hospitalization, he said he had to give up fast food and bacon. In later interviews, he mentioned fish, vegetables, protein shakes and, when bulking up, steak or chicken breast. His newest reported update, in September 2026, says he needs to eat correctly, rest and exercise twice a day—but does not give a menu.

How Nick Cannon’s diet has changed over time

Interview What Cannon said about food What the account establishes
2012, ABC News He could no longer have fast food or bacon; he gave an egg-white sandwich as a breakfast example. Restrictions he described after a health crisis and hospitalization.
2015, Sports Illustrated Protein shakes, vegetables and fish; steak or chicken breast when trying to bulk up. He said he did not eat much processed food. A broader pattern and an occasional bulking-up variation, as he described them in that interview.
2018, GQ He called his approach “eating clean,” avoiding pork and processed foods, and balancing foods with his trainer. His account of a less confining approach after an earlier, stricter phase.
2026, Us Weekly He said he has to eat correctly, rest and exercise twice daily. A general health update, not a list of foods or a current meal plan.

What he said after his 2012 hospitalization

In an ABC News interview published March 5, 2012, Cannon discussed being hospitalized with kidney-related problems and said doctors had ordered lifestyle changes. He called the diet the hardest part: “I can’t have any fast food anymore…no Happy Meals, nothing.” He also said his then-wife, Mariah Carey, made him an egg-white sandwich and that he could no longer eat bacon. These are details from his early post-hospitalization account, not proof that the same restrictions remained in place permanently. ABC News, March 5, 2012.

What he ate in the 2015 account

In a Sports Illustrated interview published February 13, 2015, Cannon said: “I drink a gallon of water a day, lots of water. Protein shakes, vegetables and I don’t really mess with processed food that much.” He said he usually ate fish and vegetables, but might have more steak or chicken breast when trying to bulk up. He also named fruit-flavored candy—including Starburst, Skittles, Lemon Heads and Now & Laters—as his biggest dietary vice. Sports Illustrated, February 13, 2015.

What “eating clean” meant in his 2018 interview

Speaking to GQ on August 13, 2018, Cannon described an earlier phase of almost a year in which he avoided sodium and processed foods, and avoided certain green vegetables because of vitamin K. He said he eventually wanted a healthier lifestyle that felt less confining. Of his approach at the time, he said: “So now it’s just eating clean. I don’t eat pork or processed foods.” He also said he worked with a trainer to balance foods he wanted to eat. GQ, August 13, 2018.

That interview also gives a different water amount from his 2015 account: Cannon said he was supposed to drink two gallons a day to take his vitamins and medicine properly, and that he often drank Essentia alkaline water. Both the amount and the reason are his reported personal routine in 2018; the interview does not establish a general health benefit from alkaline water.

What his 2026 update does—and doesn’t—say

In an interview published September 23, 2026, Us Weekly reported that Cannon, then 45, exercises twice a day and said: “I have to eat correctly, get rest and exercise twice a day.” He connected this routine to living with lupus, but the interview did not name foods, provide a day-by-day menu or confirm that his 2018 restrictions still apply. Us Weekly, September 23, 2026.

How to read these accounts

  • The interviews document what Cannon said at specific times, rather than a verified current meal plan.
  • His reported habits shifted across different periods and contexts; the older accounts should not be treated as a single, unchanging set of rules.
  • His food restrictions and hydration amounts are personal details related to his own health history, not medical advice or a lupus diet for readers.
