Before marrying Prince William on 29 April 2011, Kate Middleton completed a gap year, earned a degree in History of Art from the University of St Andrews, and worked for her family’s business and briefly as an accessories buyer at Jigsaw.
What did Kate Middleton do before university?
Kate attended St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne and then Marlborough College. At Marlborough, she studied Chemistry, Biology and Art at A-level and took part in sports, according to the Royal Family’s official biography.
After leaving Marlborough in July 2000, she took a gap year that included study at the British Institute in Florence, a Raleigh International programme in Chile, and crewing on Round the World Challenge boats in the Solent.
What did she study at St Andrews?
Kate enrolled at the University of St Andrews in 2001 and graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in History of Art. The Royal Family’s biography states: “In 2001, Her Royal Highness enrolled at the University of St. Andrews, Fife, from where she graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in History of Art.” She met Prince William while they were students there.

Where did Kate Middleton work before her marriage?
After graduating, Kate worked for Party Pieces, her parents’ business. Debrett’s account of her employment says she began working as an accessories buyer at Jigsaw in November 2006, left about a year later, and returned to the family business. These job details are reported by Debrett’s; the Royal Family biography does not give an employment history.

The couple announced their engagement in November 2010, according to ABC News’ contemporaneous timeline. Kate and William married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011, the date given in the Royal Family’s official biography.
