Devin Strader’s “shocking claim” was that his breakup with Jenn Tran was not as one-sided as she described on The Bachelorette’s season 21 finale. In a September 10, 2024 Instagram video, he disputed parts of her account, described the relationship as mutual, and shared screenshots he presented as private messages. Those posts show what Strader chose to publish; they do not independently establish the full story of the breakup.
What Jenn Tran said happened after the engagement
Tran proposed to Strader in Hawaii during filming, and the two left the show engaged. On the September 3, 2024 finale and After the Final Rose, she said that after they returned, Strader became less communicative and his effort felt inconsistent.

Tran said Strader called off the engagement by phone the night before they were due to attend a counseling appointment. She recalled him saying he no longer loved her and that he had felt something was wrong from the moment he proposed. As Good Morning America reported, Tran said: “He had basically said that he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same way and he felt like things were off the second he proposed.”
She also confronted Strader about following former contestant Maria Georgas on Instagram. Strader said at the finale that he had been “regretfully late” in telling Tran how he felt and that he “can’t excuse” following Georgas.

What Devin Strader claimed in his video
On September 10, Strader posted a 13-minute Instagram video that included numerous screenshots he presented as private texts between him and Tran. In the video, he said the relationship was two-way and disputed the portrayal of the breakup as a 15-minute phone call. He also claimed he had tried to meet Tran and attend a planned “Happy Couple” visit, and described anxiety and emotional strain as part of what led to the breakup. These are Strader’s claims as reported by Bustle, not independently verified findings.
“All I’m trying to do here is show that this was a two-way relationship, and I think we can both be held accountable,” Strader said, according to Bustle. His version disputes aspects of Tran’s account, but neither a public recollection nor selectively shared messages can settle every detail of a private relationship.

Why the screenshots drew criticism
The video’s screenshots exposed private communications. Bustle reported that Strader later apologized on Instagram for showing sensitive information, and that the video and accompanying story appeared to have been deleted by the time of its report. The screenshots are relevant to understanding what Strader argued, but they are an edited selection he published, not a complete record of the relationship.
What Maria Georgas said about the breakup
Georgas rejected the suggestion that she caused the split. She said she had never met Strader, had not followed him back, and had “nothing to do with the ending of the relationship.” She also said that Tran and Strader were the only people who could speak fully to what happened between them. As ABC News reported, Georgas said: “I can’t speak on her relationship. The only two people that can speak on her relationship are her and Devin. Those are the only two people that know truly what is going on.”

Strader’s later apology
On September 19, 2024, Strader issued a statement to TV Insider apologizing for the post-finale video. He said: “I want to apologize for the video I released following the final episode. I am not proud of that lapse in judgment.” The statement, reproduced by TV Insider, expressed regret for hurting Tran.

The televised finale documents Tran’s account and Strader’s response at that time. His later video challenged parts of her account and offered his own interpretation, then he apologized for releasing it. Georgas denied involvement. The available reporting does not resolve the former couple’s conflicting descriptions of the breakup, and the published texts should not be treated as proof of the entire relationship or either person’s motives.
