Danica Patrick objected to the NFL’s choice of Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl LX halftime show, arguing that songs not in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest-rated television events. The NFL stood by its selection, and Commissioner Roger Goodell later said the decision had been carefully considered.

On September 29, 2025, Patrick posted on X: “Oh fun. 🙄 No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports.” Sporting News reproduced the post and reported its timing.

Her objection was specifically about song language at a major televised event. It was Patrick’s stated view, not an NFL rule or evidence of a measured public consensus. Sporting News described the comments on the post as mixed; those reactions do not establish how viewers overall felt.
Who was chosen, and when was the show?
In September 2025, Apple Music, the NFL and Roc Nation announced Bad Bunny as the performer for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show. The NFL named Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, as the venue and February 8, 2026, as the event date, with the broadcast scheduled for NBC. The league’s announcement described him as a three-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist. The announced date has passed.

How did the NFL respond to the criticism?
At a news conference after the NFL owners meeting on October 22, 2025, Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league was not considering dropping Bad Bunny. He called the choice “carefully thought through” and said, “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.” The Associated Press reported his comments.
Goodell’s remarks framed criticism as a familiar challenge for a show watched by a very large audience; they did not indicate that the league planned to change the performer. The NFL announcement also emphasized Bad Bunny’s popularity and entertainment value, rather than presenting Patrick’s language preference as a standard for the halftime selection.

What did Bad Bunny say about performing?
In the NFL’s September announcement, Bad Bunny said the performance was for “my people, my culture, and our history,” placing the show in a cultural context of his own. His full statement also included a reference to those who came before him. That framing is relevant to understanding the artist’s stated purpose, but it does not establish what motivated Patrick’s post beyond the language preference she expressed.
At an Apple Music press event on February 5, 2026, Bad Bunny called the show “a huge party” and said, “I want to bring to the stage, of course, a lot of my culture.” He declined to reveal performance details. The Associated Press, in an account republished by NFL.com, noted that he had previously appeared at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. The same report said his album Debí Tirar Más Fotos won the 2026 Grammy for Album of the Year, becoming the first all-Spanish-language album to receive that prize.
