Newsmax is on channel 349 HD for DIRECTV’s regular lineup. - If channel 349 is unavailable, check the current account-specific guide, package, receiver or app, device, and location before assuming DIRECTV changed the channel.
What channel is Newsmax on DIRECTV?

Is Newsmax on channel 349 for both DIRECTV satellite and Via Internet?
Yes. DIRECTV’s official channel list shows Newsmax at channel 349 for both DIRECTV satellite and DIRECTV Via Internet. The two services may use different equipment and guide interfaces, but the official lineup assigns Newsmax the same regular channel number in both listings.
| DIRECTV service | Regular Newsmax channel | What to check if it is missing |
|---|---|---|
| DIRECTV satellite | 349 HD | Receiver guide, package eligibility, local account lineup, and current service status |
| DIRECTV Via Internet | 349 HD | App or device guide, signed-in account, package eligibility, location, and current service status |
For the latest lineup rather than an older search result, use DIRECTV’s official printable channel list and guide tools. A current guide is more reliable than an old channel list because network distribution and package terms can change.
Are channels 71 and 200 the Newsmax channel on DIRECTV?
No. Channels 71 and 200 were temporary DIRECTV Election HQ mix channels, not Newsmax’s regular channel. During the 2024 election period, DIRECTV said satellite customers could use those channels to access a mix of election-related feeds, including Newsmax. To watch the normal Newsmax feed, use channel 349 HD.
DIRECTV’s October 31, 2024 Election HQ announcement describes the temporary feature. Because Election HQ was a special coverage feature, its channel numbers should not be substituted for Newsmax’s ordinary channel assignment.

Why can’t I find Newsmax on channel 349?
If Newsmax does not appear on channel 349, the most likely explanation is an account, package, guide, device, location, or service-status issue—not proof that channel 349 is universally wrong. Work through these checks:
- Confirm the service type. Check whether you are using DIRECTV satellite or DIRECTV Via Internet. DIRECTV’s official lineup lists channel 349 for both, but the guide and equipment may look different.
- Check the signed-in account. On an internet-connected DIRECTV device or app, verify that the correct account is active. A guest view, expired session, or different household account may show a different guide.
- Check package eligibility. Channel listings do not necessarily mean every package includes every network. Review the current package details in your DIRECTV account or the current official channel lineup.
- Refresh the guide or restart the equipment. A receiver or app can display an outdated guide. Allow the guide to reload, then search for “Newsmax” by network name as well as by channel number.
- Check location-specific availability. DIRECTV lineups and service availability can vary by account location. Compare the result with the guide associated with your billing address.
- Contact DIRECTV if the listing still differs. Ask whether Newsmax is currently included in your package and whether a temporary outage, device issue, or carriage change affects your account.
Do not assume that a missing listing means Newsmax has permanently moved. Conversely, do not assume that an old result showing channel 349 guarantees current access without checking the current account-specific guide.
Did DIRECTV drop Newsmax?
Newsmax was involved in a DIRECTV carriage dispute, but DIRECTV announced on March 22, 2023, that the companies had finalized a multi-year distribution agreement and that Newsmax would return to DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM, and U-verse on March 23, 2023.
In that announcement, DIRECTV said Newsmax would be available at no additional cost to customers at that time. That was a statement about the 2023 renewal, not a permanent promise covering every future package or price. Current package inclusion should be verified through the account-specific guide and current DIRECTV terms.

DIRECTV also said that, over the preceding five years, the pay-TV industry had experienced “no less than 140 distinct disputes” between programmers or station groups and distributors. The figure appears in DIRECTV’s March 22, 2023 Newsmax renewal announcement and helps explain why older search results may describe Newsmax as removed even though the network subsequently returned.
What news networks did DIRECTV describe after the 2023 renewal?
In its March 22, 2023 announcement, DIRECTV described an expanded lineup of six 24/7 news networks: CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation, and The First. The six-network description was part of the 2023 announcement and should not be treated as a guarantee that every network has identical package eligibility for every customer today.
The announcement also included statements from executives involved in the agreement. Christopher Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax, said, Newsmax recognizes and appreciates that DIRECTV clearly supports diverse voices, including conservative ones,
while Bill Morrow, CEO of DIRECTV, said, This resolution with Newsmax, resolving an all-too-common carriage dispute, underscores our dedication to delivering a wide array of programming and perspectives to our customers.
Both statements are attributed in DIRECTV’s official 2023 announcement.
Does the current DIRECTV package include Newsmax?
DIRECTV’s package documentation shows Newsmax channel 349 in the MyNews lineup, but package availability is not necessarily identical for every customer or every future plan. DIRECTV’s Genre Packs channel lineup is marked current as of May 9, 2025 and lists Newsmax at 349 in MyNews.

The date on a lineup document matters. A published package guide is evidence of the lineup at the stated date, not a guarantee that a later agreement, plan change, market restriction, or account change will leave the listing unchanged. If your account does not show Newsmax, use the current guide tied to your service and package rather than relying only on a general web result.
