She also said she had suffered under Mattos’s treatment and described some moments as abusive. Her account was mixed—not a denial of harm or an unqualified defense.
What did Cátia Paganote say about Marlene Mattos?
In an interview with Agora POD, as reported by POPLine on September 10, 2024, Paganote said she felt gratitude toward Mattos for helping her financially during a difficult period. She also described painful experiences with her. POPLine quoted her: “Não tenho nada contra a Marlene. Até sou grata, porque ela me ajudou muito em uma parte da minha vida. Tive uma fase que precisei, e ela foi lá e me ajudou financeiramente. Não tenho nada contra” (“I have nothing against Marlene. I’m even grateful, because she helped me a lot at a point in my life. I went through a phase when I needed help, and she went and helped me financially. I have nothing against her”). Read POPLine’s report.
In the same report, Paganote added: “Mas sei também que sofri com ela. Sei que ela foi abusiva em certos momentos” (“But I also know that I suffered with her. I know she was abusive at certain moments”). Those are Paganote’s descriptions of her experience, not independently established findings about Mattos.
Why her account was mixed
Paganote, also known as Miúxa, and Mattos worked together on Xuxa’s programs in the 1980s and 1990s, according to POPLine. Paganote’s comments held two things together: appreciation for personal financial support and criticism of how she says she was treated at times.

She summarized her view this way: “Marlene foi ruim? Foi ruim e foi boa. Não foi totalmente ruim” (“Was Marlene bad? She was bad and she was good. She wasn’t completely bad”). POPLine also reported Paganote’s broader criticism that people in the production environment wanted to scold the Paquitas. That characterization, too, should be understood as her account rather than a verified description of everyone’s experience.
What Paganote said about being a Paquita
A Terra report published August 25, 2024, said Paganote joined the group at 12 and remained until 19. Reflecting on that period, she said: “Guardo as melhores recordações da época de paquita e algumas ruins. Mas tento sempre ficar com as boas” (“I keep the best memories of my time as a Paquita, and some bad ones. But I always try to hold on to the good ones”). Terra described her recollections as a mixture of good and bad, difficult and tiring experiences, and enjoyable moments. Read Terra’s report.
