Cyrus Veyssi says a stranger’s comment questioning whether their father accepted them prompted a funny TikTok that became the start of Bonding With My Baba, a continuing series about their close relationship. Published accounts give different figures for the first video’s views, so there is no single verified count.
How Veyssi’s father became part of the video
In a first-person essay published by Vogue on August 24, 2026, Veyssi recalled posting a full makeup look during the pandemic. Their father had filmed the makeup video because Veyssi did not have a tripod.
A stranger commented, “So you’re Persian, nonbinary, and queer. What age did your dad leave you?” Veyssi responded with a humorous TikTok built around the idea of trying to bond with their straight dad. The premise was tongue-in-cheek: Veyssi wrote, “It was tongue-in-cheek, of course, since anybody who knew me knew my dad and I are already extremely close.”
What is Bonding With My Baba?
Veyssi says the first video grew into Bonding With My Baba, a continuing series featuring them and their father. They describe it as a way to show unconditional love in parenthood and cultural identity, using comedy to bring viewers into a story about a family that was already close. In Vogue, Veyssi wrote, “My dad and I turned that first bonding video into a viral video series, Bonding With My Baba, that still goes on today.”

How many views did the first video get?
Published recollections differ, and the available accounts do not establish a definitive figure. Veyssi wrote in Vogue that the video had 10 million views when they woke up. Forbes Vetted quoted Veyssi recalling 7 million views overnight, while a Coveteur interview reported Veyssi’s account as 3 million views in three days. These figures have different timeframes and come through published accounts; they should not be combined into one settled total.
The family story Veyssi tells
Veyssi has said they came out as gay to their parents at around 11 and later came out as nonbinary. In the Vogue essay, they describe a home where creativity and love were central, and say their family’s support shaped their humor and public storytelling. Veyssi also writes that their parents left Iran after the revolution, met in France, and moved to the United States for work.

In the Coveteur interview, Veyssi described their parents as unusually open-minded among their Iranian community and urged parents to listen to what their children are trying to explain. They put the value of listening this way: “If someone is willing to listen, that’s when they learn.” This is Veyssi’s account of their own family, not a claim about all Iranian or queer families.
The cited accounts describe Veyssi’s parents as supportive, but do not provide a specific quotation from their father about Veyssi coming out. A precise response from him should not be inferred.
