Judge Carrie Ann Inaba later said she was taken aback, calling the answer dismissive of the opportunity, Sosa and the people who worked on the show. Her core criticism: “A little gratitude could have changed the narrative.”
What did Carrie Ann Inaba say about Anna Delvey?
Inaba’s response was about Delvey’s one-word answer after the elimination, not a new assessment of her dancing. In remarks to Entertainment Weekly reproduced by Good Morning America, Inaba said: “That was dismissive not only of the opportunity she was given, of her wonderful and supportive partner Ezra in his debut season, but also of all of us who work on the show-from the dancers to behind the scenes to the creative team.”

She added, “We all put in the effort to give her a fair opportunity.” Inaba said she did not think Delvey could see that effort and concluded: “A little gratitude could have changed the narrative.” These were Inaba’s comments in 2024, following the episode; they should not be read as a statement issued at a later date.
Why did the answer draw criticism?
Hough’s question asked Delvey what she would take away from her time on the show. Her answer, “Nothing,” could be heard as rejecting the experience as a whole. Inaba’s explanation was that it also seemed to disregard Sosa’s support and the work of the dancers, production staff and creative team who had given Delvey a chance to compete.

Inaba’s point was about how Delvey’s response came across. She said gratitude might have changed the public narrative around the exit; she did not say that gratitude would have changed the elimination result.
How did Anna Delvey and Ezra Sosa respond after the elimination?
Delvey’s follow-up
Delvey later told Good Morning America that her favorite part of the experience was “getting eliminated.” The Associated Press also reported that she reposted the exit clip and said wearing an ankle monitor during the performance was not a major issue for her. The monitor was part of the episode’s context, but it was not the focus of Inaba’s criticism.

Sosa’s message
Sosa took a more appreciative tone in his public response. As quoted by Good Morning America, he wrote: “Yes, she’s been controversial, but working with her gave me the chance to see a different side— one filled with her hard work, determination, and resilience.” He said he hoped viewers would eventually get to know that side of her.
The comments address different perspectives: Inaba criticized Delvey’s exit answer, while Sosa described what he saw while working with her as her partner. Sosa’s message does not establish that he disagreed with Inaba about the answer or about Delvey’s past.
Was Delvey voted off by the judges?
No. Delvey and Sosa were part of a double elimination on the September 24, 2024 episode; Tori Spelling and Pasha Pashkov also left. The Associated Press reported that eliminations had begun in the season’s second week and were based on viewer votes, so this was not simply a judge’s decision. Good Morning America reported that Delvey and Sosa’s combined score across both nights was 35. That figure is their two-night score, not a measure of audience support.

Anna Delvey is the name Anna Sorokin used while presenting herself as a wealthy socialite. Her story inspired Netflix’s 2022 dramatized miniseries Inventing Anna; ABC’s 2024 contestant bio notes that the story has prompted different public interpretations. The AP’s coverage of the 2024 competition discusses Sorokin’s conviction and her house-arrest and deportation context at that time. Those details are time-specific and do not establish her present immigration status.

For readers interested in the story beyond the show, Simon & Schuster describes Rachel DeLoache Williams’s My Friend Anna as a firsthand true-crime memoir about Delvey and the friend she betrayed. Netflix describes Inventing Anna as a series about a journalist investigating Delvey; it is a dramatized adaptation, not a documentary account of the DWTS episode.
