Which song did he call a “fighting prayer”?
He was introducing “Long Walk Home,” a song from Springsteen’s 2007 album Magic. The phrase “fighting prayer” was his description of the song in that moment; it was not a separate song title. Rolling Stone’s report identifies the album.
What was the political context?
The show took place the day after the U.S. presidential election. Springsteen had supported Kamala Harris during the campaign, making the brief dedication resonant in the aftermath of Trump’s victory. The Toronto reports describe the remark as part of the song introduction; they do not establish that Springsteen gave a longer address or explain in his own words what he intended the song to mean that night.

Springsteen had made separate political remarks before the election. In a campaign video, he said, “This election is about a group of folks who want to fundamentally undermine our American way of life,” as quoted by Rolling Stone Australia. That campaign statement was not part of the Toronto performance.

Contemporary coverage connected the song’s themes to disorientation and a changed America. That is the reporters’ interpretation of its relevance to the post-election setting, not a fuller explanation Springsteen gave from the stage in Toronto. The most certain account of the moment is the one he supplied himself: he called the song “a fighting prayer for my country.”
