During a 2016 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, while promoting The Shallows, Blake Lively joked about the awkwardness of seeing her husband Ryan Reynolds in the sex-scene montage from Deadpool on airplane screens. Contemporary coverage framed the anecdote as comic, not as a serious objection to his work or a sign of trouble in their relationship.
What Blake Lively said about the scenes
Lively’s anecdote concerned encountering the Deadpool montage while flying. The joke was about the peculiar discomfort of seeing her husband in an intimate scene on a screen in public, where she could not simply treat it as an ordinary movie moment. Marie Claire and Vanity Fair reported the story in 2016:

- Marie Claire’s 2016 account places the anecdote in her Fallon interview and connects it to the airplane-screen experience.
- Vanity Fair’s 2016 report likewise describes Lively as joking about seeing the scenes while flying.
The practical answer to how she felt is therefore that she found the situation awkward enough to joke about. The reports do not establish that she was making a serious complaint about Reynolds’ acting choices.
Why the interview was being discussed
Lively appeared on The Tonight Show in 2016 during promotion for The Shallows. Coverage also noted that she and Fallon played the “Know It All” game. Elle’s 2016 report covers both the interview and the game; it does not establish that the game itself was what prompted descriptions of Lively being praised.

What the anecdote does—and does not—show
The contemporary stories characterize the exchange as humorous. They support describing Lively as making light of an unusual viewing situation; they do not support treating the joke as evidence of marital conflict, jealousy, or a serious objection to Reynolds’ work. Nor should an outlet’s paraphrase or quoted rendering be treated as a verified transcript: the original broadcast or a reliable transcript would be needed to confirm exact wording and punctuation.
