For a bandwidth-conscious 24/7 stream, start with H.264 at 720p30, using CBR at 4 Mbps for relatively low-motion content. That is a practical compromise, not YouTube’s recommended target: YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as recommended for H.264 720p30. If your VPS plan and its route to YouTube can sustain it, aim closer to 8 Mbps for more image detail. Add upload headroom: YouTube recommends 20%, so plan for at least about 5 Mbps sustained outbound capacity at a 4 Mbps stream rate, or about 10 Mbps at 8 Mbps. Test the actual route before relying on it.
Choose bitrate by codec, resolution and frame rate
“Indian VPS” does not determine a bitrate. The right setting depends on your ingest codec, resolution, frame rate, the video’s motion, and the server’s sustained outbound capacity. YouTube’s figures below are live ingest bitrates, not upload rates for prerecorded videos. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers.
| Live ingest format | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended | AV1/H.265 minimum | AV1/H.265 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current published live ingest figures; use the entry for the codec you actually send. A recommendation for one codec is not interchangeable with another. The listed ingest codecs are H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. Confirm that both your encoder and chosen YouTube ingest mode support your selection. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Check your VPS upload capacity and monthly transfer
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom, and available upload bandwidth must exceed the total stream bitrate, including audio. The headroom calculation is only a planning floor; it does not establish that delivery will be stable. Test the server-to-ingest path and allow additional margin if capacity varies.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- At 4 Mbps video, plan for at least about 5 Mbps sustained outbound capacity.
- At 8 Mbps video, plan for at least about 10 Mbps sustained outbound capacity.
A 24/7 feed also consumes substantial monthly transfer. The estimates below are decimal data calculations for a continuous encoded stream over 30 days; they exclude protocol overhead and differences in provider traffic accounting.
| Stream bitrate | Approximate transfer over 30 days |
|---|---|
| 4 Mbps | 1.30 TB |
| 8 Mbps | 2.59 TB |
| 14 Mbps | 4.54 TB |
Before choosing a VPS, check the exact plan’s monthly transfer allowance, port speed, what traffic direction or directions count toward quota, and any post-quota throttling or fair-use terms. A fast port does not guarantee a large monthly allowance, and “unmetered” marketing alone does not establish whether restrictions apply. Indian providers’ terms vary: for example, VyomCloud publishes plan-specific traffic and port speeds, while OVHcloud says Asia-Pacific locations including Mumbai have monthly quotas and speed limits after quota. These are examples, not rules for every Indian VPS.

Configure the stream for a stable ingest
- Choose the resolution and frame rate. For a bandwidth-limited route, 720p30 is a sensible starting point. Move to 1080p or 60 fps only if the route, quota and visual result justify the higher bitrate.
- Set the encoder bitrate. For relatively low-motion H.264 720p30, try 4 Mbps as a compromise; YouTube’s recommended figure is 8 Mbps. Use YouTube’s codec-specific table for other formats.
- Use CBR and progressive video. Set a constant bitrate and progressive scan. Set a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Set audio and account for it. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio. Include audio in your total outgoing bandwidth plan.
- Use RTMPS when supported. RTMPS is RTMP over TLS/SSL encryption. Retrieve the RTMPS server URL and stream key in YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Test the real workload. Run a pre-stream test with representative motion and audio, then check stream health in Live Control Room while live. A static test image can understate the bitrate demands of moving documentary footage.
YouTube’s guidance is to leave “a bit of room (20% recommended).” See encoder settings, streaming tips and RTMPS guidance.
Balance picture quality against reliability
Higher resolution and frame rate require more bitrate under YouTube’s table; more motion also makes compression more demanding. Compare image detail with sustained egress headroom and monthly quota, then inspect the actual stream. If your VPS route or transfer allowance cannot comfortably sustain a higher rate, 720p30 may be a more dependable choice than 1080p. Do not lower the bitrate so far that the image becomes unusable.

Troubleshoot common bitrate and delivery problems
- YouTube reports insufficient bandwidth or unstable ingest: Check sustained outbound capacity on the actual server-to-ingest path. Reduce bitrate or resolution if needed, and retain upload headroom rather than setting the stream at the port’s advertised maximum.
- The stream works initially, then slows or stops: Check monthly transfer usage and the provider’s post-quota policy. Confirm how it counts traffic and whether it throttles after an allowance is reached.
- Fast motion looks blocky: Test representative footage and audio. If capacity and quota permit, increase bitrate toward YouTube’s recommended figure for the selected codec, resolution and frame rate.
- Keyframes or ingest settings are flagged: Use CBR, progressive video and a 2-second keyframe interval, and verify that the selected codec is supported by your encoder and ingest mode.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Do not publish it. Replace or reset it through YouTube Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key.
