The baby Alan calls “Carlos” in The Hangover is Tyler, played as an infant primarily by Grant Holmquist. A German entertainment report published August 20, 2026, describes Holmquist at 18 with short blond hair and says he has stepped away from acting. That is a dated secondary report, not a recent statement from Holmquist himself.
Who played baby Carlos in The Hangover?
“Carlos” is Alan’s nickname for the baby, whose name in the story is Tyler. Grant Holmquist was the principal infant actor associated with the role, but he was not the only baby used in the first film. A 2017 report by Heat identifies Holmquist’s twin sister, Avery, as one of the babies who shared the part.

The precise division of screen time is not established by a production record in the cited reporting. Heat repeated an IMDb estimate that Grant performed 58% of the role; treat that as a secondary report of an estimate, not a confirmed production figure.

Did he return for another Hangover film?
Yes. Holmquist returned in The Hangover Part III. In a 2013 interview with The Source, director Todd Phillips confirmed that the child was the same baby seen on the first film’s poster. Phillips said: “Yeah his name’s Grant Holmquist, he’s the same baby that you saw on the poster of the first Hangover. He’s now 4 and a half years old.” That age refers to the 2013 interview, not to Holmquist today.
