Amy Winehouse’s former husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, made his latest substantial public comments in a March 2026 interview on Paul C. Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast. He reflected on their destructive relationship, acknowledged his own role in it and disputed the idea that he alone was responsible for Winehouse’s decline or death. A March 2026 profile reported that he is believed to live in Leeds with a new partner, but that detail has not been independently confirmed.
What Blake Fielder-Civil has said recently
In the March 2026 podcast interview, Fielder-Civil said, “I had a part to play” in the damaging dynamic of his relationship with Winehouse. He also argued against assigning him sole responsibility, saying, “But Amy herself had agency… Amy did what she wanted to do.” These are Fielder-Civil’s views about a painful and complicated history, not an independent finding about the causes of Winehouse’s decline or death. The Standard reported his remarks on 17 March 2026.
The comments revisit a question that has followed Fielder-Civil for years: how to understand his part in the relationship without reducing Winehouse’s life and choices to one person. His accounts have varied over time, and his recollections should be read as his own account rather than as uncontested history.
Where he is now, according to reporting
A March 2026 profile says Fielder-Civil is believed to be living in Leeds with a new partner. That wording is qualified: his precise current circumstances have not been independently established. The profile also reports that he has two children with his former wife, Sarah Aspin, and that he avoids discussing them publicly to protect their privacy. Heart’s profile provides those reported details.

What he said about Back to Black
In 2024, while discussing the biopic Back to Black, Fielder-Civil described watching it as “almost therapeutic in a way.” He said that some parts felt like a more accurate depiction of their relationship because the film showed more than addiction. He also rejected the idea that his reaction meant he was being let off the hook or that the film whitewashed his role. Those comments describe his response to a dramatized film; they do not independently verify the private history it portrays. The Independent reported his comments after his 12 April 2024 appearance on Good Morning Britain.

How their relationship fits into Winehouse’s story
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil met in a Camden pub in 2005, married in Miami in 2007 and divorced in 2009. Winehouse died in July 2011, aged 27. Their relationship and breakup are closely associated in reporting with her album Back to Black, but that connection should not be mistaken for a complete explanation of the record or of Winehouse’s life. BBC coverage of the film and their relationship provides chronology and context.
For a documentary-minded reader, the distinction matters: the dates of their marriage and divorce are part of the established timeline, while judgments about blame and the meaning of the relationship come from particular people and portrayals. Fielder-Civil’s public statements are one perspective on a history shaped by addiction, intense tabloid attention and the limits of what outsiders can know about a private relationship.
