Alex Fine, Cassie Ventura’s husband, posted an open letter on Instagram on May 17, 2024, condemning violence against women and people who enable abusers, affirming survivors, and describing his hope to raise his daughters in a world where they are safe and loved. His post appeared shortly after CNN released surveillance footage showing Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway.

What Did Diddy Do? [DVD]
- From music mogul to controversy, Sean Combs' life is full of highs and lows, but the central mystery remains: What did Diddy do?
“To the abusers, you’re done, you’re not safe anymore, you’re not protected anymore.”
The Independent also reported that Fine urged readers to “check your brothers, your friends, and your family.” He said he hoped to raise his daughters in a world where they were safe and loved. These were Fine’s public words about violence against women and survivor support; the coverage does not establish that he was speaking on Ventura’s behalf or explaining her private response.
Why the letter followed the video
CNN released the hotel surveillance footage on May 17, 2024. The Associated Press reported that the video was dated March 5, 2016, and showed Combs assaulting Ventura in a hotel hallway; AP said the footage matched the incident described in Ventura’s lawsuit. E! News stated that it relied on CNN’s footage and had not independently verified the video. The Independent reported that CNN located the hotel by comparing the interior with publicly available images.
Fine shared his letter on Instagram on the same day as CNN’s release, shortly afterward according to E! News. The dates matter: the incident shown in the video was in 2016, while the video’s publication and Fine’s response came in 2024.

What happened next
Ventura filed a civil lawsuit against Combs in November 2023, and the suit settled the following day, AP reported. The settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing, according to a contemporaneous statement from Combs’s representative reported by AP.
On May 19, 2024, Combs posted a video apology and said, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video,” AP reported. AP also said in May 2024 that prosecution for the assault and battery charges likely applicable to the 2016 incident was probably time-barred at that point; that was a time-specific assessment, not a statement of current legal status.
Who is Alex Fine?
Fine is Ventura’s husband. The Independent reported that they married in 2019. His Instagram letter was a public statement condemning violence and supporting survivors, not evidence that he witnessed the 2016 incident or independently authenticated the footage.
