PEOPLE reported on March 20, 2024, citing an unnamed family source, that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were being left out of details about Kate Middleton’s health. The account was not confirmed by the palace or by either couple, and the available reports do not establish what was shared privately or who decided what to share.
What did the report claim?
PEOPLE’s report, reproduced by Yahoo, said Meghan and Harry were “in the dark” about Kate’s abdominal surgery and recovery. An unnamed family source told the outlet: “They are aware of everything that goes on back in England, but are being left out of any details regarding Kate.” The source also said, “There is clearly no trust.” Those statements describe the source’s account, not independently verified facts or on-the-record comments from the Sussexes or the Waleses. What context did the coverage provide?
The same report said Harry traveled from California to the United Kingdom after King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024. It said Harry did not meet William or Kate during that visit and quoted a royal source saying there were “no plans” for the brothers to meet. The coverage also pointed to the estrangement following Harry’s memoir Spare and the Netflix series featuring Meghan. That context does not establish why any particular private information was or was not shared. PEOPLE’s account via Yahoo; OK!’s March 20, 2024 summary.
What did Meghan and Harry say about Kate?
After Kate’s cancer diagnosis was announced, Meghan and Harry publicly expressed support. TheGrio quoted their statement: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family.” That public message is distinct from the unverified account of private family communications.
