The burial claim traces to a reported email tip summarized in an FBI record. New Mexico reopened a criminal investigation in February 2026 and announced a search of the property in March, but those investigative steps do not confirm the allegation.
What is known about the burial claim
An FBI import form, record EFTA01250231, dated October 8, 2021, says Edward Aragon told the FBI on November 25, 2019, that he had received an email offering seven videos of sexual abuse and the location of two foreign girls allegedly buried at Zorro Ranch. The record describes what Aragon reported and what the email purportedly offered; it does not authenticate the email or establish that the girls existed, died, or were buried at the ranch. The copy reviewed is machine-extracted text hosted by a third-party archive: FBI record EFTA01250231.
The record does not establish strangulation as a cause of death. No reviewed official source confirms the alleged deaths, a cause of death, or a burial. The claim should therefore be described as an allegation in a reported tip, not as a finding.
What New Mexico has done
February 10: Land commissioner calls for an investigation
New Mexico Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard publicly called for a criminal investigation into the allegation that two girls were buried in hills around the ranch. She said the State Land Office held lease records for nearby state land and had provided information to the New Mexico Department of Justice. Her statement did not corroborate the burial claim. She said, “People deserve to know the truth about what happened on Epstein’s ranch and are looking to leaders for answers.” New Mexico State Land Office statement, February 10, 2026.

February 19: Attorney general reopens the criminal investigation
Attorney General Raúl Torrez ordered the state investigation reopened after reviewing information recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice. The New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) said the prior state investigation had closed in 2019 at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and that previously sealed FBI files warranted further examination. The department said it would “follow the facts wherever they lead” and collect and preserve relevant evidence that remains available. NMDOJ statement, February 19, 2026.
March 9: State announces a search of the property
NMDOJ announced that it had initiated a search of the former ranch property as part of the criminal investigation. New Mexico State Police and a Sandoval County Fire and Rescue K-9 team assisted. The announcement describes an investigative search; it does not say the burial allegation was confirmed or that remains were found. NMDOJ statement, March 9, 2026.
August 5: Investigation remains ongoing; state seeks federal records
NMDOJ said the criminal investigation remained ongoing and announced that New Mexico had sued the U.S. Department of Justice seeking access to unredacted investigative records. The lawsuit reflects the state’s position and request; allegations about federal conduct in the dispute are not adjudicated findings. NMDOJ statement, August 5, 2026.

- Documented: A reported email tip described an alleged burial location; New Mexico reopened its investigation and announced a search of the ranch.
- Not established by the reviewed public sources: Whether the alleged girls existed, whether they died, whether any burial occurred at Zorro Ranch, or whether strangulation was involved.
- Still active: NMDOJ’s public page characterizes the investigation as ongoing and requests credible information from people with relevant knowledge. NMDOJ’s Epstein investigation page.
Reopening an investigation and searching a property are investigative actions, not proof of the underlying allegation. The public sources cited here do not report that the search confirmed the alleged burial.
