Yes—Bill Skarsgård’s return as Pennywise was confirmed in reporting about HBO’s Welcome to Derry Comic-Con screening. Warner Bros. Discovery had announced a first look at premiere-episode footage for July 26, 2025; KPBS reported that HBO screened the series’ first ten minutes and that the screening confirmed Skarsgård’s return.
What the Comic-Con first look confirmed
Warner Bros. Discovery announced an early look at footage from the premiere episode of Welcome to Derry for Saturday, July 26, 2025, at San Diego Comic-Con. Andy and Barbara Muschietti were announced as presenters. That announcement established the planned sneak peek; the account of what was screened came separately from KPBS.
KPBS reported that HBO screened the first ten minutes of the series at Comic-Con and that the screening confirmed Bill Skarsgård’s return as Pennywise. The ten-minute length and the confirmation are details attributed to KPBS’s report, not to the event announcement.
How this footage differs from the earlier teaser
The Comic-Con sneak peek was not the first promotional footage for the series. In November 2024, Yahoo reported on a separate teaser that teased Skarsgård’s return and said the series was then expected in 2025. That earlier teaser and the July 2025 premiere-episode screening are distinct promotional releases.

What the announcements do—and do not—establish
The July 2025 event announcement establishes that premiere-episode footage was scheduled to be presented at Comic-Con; KPBS’s report supplies the screening details and Pennywise confirmation. These sources do not establish current streaming availability by country, so the Comic-Con news alone should not be treated as a guide to where or when to watch the series.
