Wayne Lewis, a founding member of Atlantic Starr who sang and played keyboards with the group, died on June 5, 2025, at age 68. The band announced his death the following day and asked the public to keep his family in their prayers and respect their privacy. The cause of death was not disclosed in the reports reviewed.

Atlantic Starr announced Lewis’s passing in a Facebook post shared June 6, 2025, according to TheWrap’s June 7 report. The band gave June 5 as the date of death and asked for prayers for his family and respect for their privacy. It did not give a cause of death.
The St. Louis American also reported the death date and noted that the cause had not been disclosed. No cause is established in the reporting cited here, so speculation about it would be unwarranted.
Who Wayne Lewis was in Atlantic Starr
Lewis co-founded Atlantic Starr with his brothers David and Jonathan. Rolling Stone Australia dates the group’s formation to 1976 and describes Wayne Lewis as a vocalist and keyboardist. TheWrap reports that Wayne and David Lewis wrote many of the band’s songs, making the group a family collaboration as well as a performing ensemble.

Atlantic Starr’s debut album followed in 1978. The group later became known for songs including “Secret Lovers” and “Always,” a career arc that Rolling Stone highlights in its account of the band.
Remembering his music
“Always” appears on Atlantic Starr’s 1987 album All in the Name of Love. Rolling Stone reports that the song topped both the pop and R&B charts. The album is a natural place to revisit Lewis’s work with the group, although current physical-format availability is not established here.

Jamaica Observer reported that Lewis’s last performance was at Bonafide Fest in Montego Bay on Mother’s Day 2025. Promoter Donovan Stephens, speaking to the newspaper, remembered him as “a good guy who was easy to work with.” That is Stephens’s personal recollection, rather than a formal statement from the band.
