What watch is James Corden wearing in Carpool Karaoke?
Watch writer Zach Blass’s retrospective for Time+Tide Watches, published 27 March 2023, identifies two watches worn by Corden at different points: an Omega Speedmaster early on and, later, a 41 mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding.
The early Omega Speedmaster
The Speedmaster identification is a model-family match. Blass proposes that it is the sapphire-sandwich version with an 1861 movement, but presents that as an inference from the video’s release date and the watch’s visible profile—not as a confirmed reference. He writes: “Based on the release date of the video and the profile of the watch, it is safe to assume it is a sapphire sandwich Omega Speedmaster with an 1861 movement inside.”
The later Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Time+Tide identifies Corden’s later watch as a 41 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding. Hodinkee’s account of the Liverpool segment also identifies an Audemars Piguet, specifying the Royal Oak reference 15400. These are publication identifications from the appearance; the available accounts do not establish confirmation from Corden or Audemars Piguet.

What watch does Paul McCartney wear in Carpool Karaoke?
The two watch publications disagree on the exact Aquanaut reference in McCartney’s Liverpool appearance. Time+Tide identifies a Patek Philippe Aquanaut reference 5167, while Hodinkee’s 26 June 2018 Watch Spotting article calls it a reference 5165A. Both name the Aquanaut family, but neither account settles the reference dispute. Without a sufficiently clear view of the footage or confirmation from McCartney or Patek Philippe, neither exact reference should be treated as definitive.
Which watches were attributed to the guests?
Time+Tide’s retrospective also attributes the following watches to guests. Its reference-level matches should be read as reported identifications, not universal confirmations; the source describes some matches as visual or timing-based estimates.

How to read a Carpool Karaoke watch identification
A watch spotted on screen can often be identified more confidently by its family than by its reference. A model name such as Speedmaster or Aquanaut is a broader claim; a reference number narrows that claim to a particular configuration. Similar-looking versions, image resolution, camera angles and the timing of a video can all affect how far an identification can reasonably go.

- Separate the family from the reference. “Omega Speedmaster” is broader than “sapphire-sandwich Speedmaster with an 1861 movement.”
- Notice the basis for the claim. A match inferred from appearance or release timing is not the same as confirmation by the wearer or brand.
- Keep disagreements visible. In McCartney’s case, the publications agree on the Aquanaut family but name different references, 5167 and 5165A.
