The episode aired on April 11, 2024, so the preview coverage described below is more than two years old. This article covers what the preview promised, then separates out the aired outcome, which is marked as spoilers.
Which episode has the first date
The date appears in Season 7, Episode 5, “You Don’t Know Me.” Tell-Tale TV and TV Insider both identify the episode by that title in their April 8, 2024 preview coverage. TV Insider dates the airing to April 11, 2024, and names the cast: Oliver Stark as Buck, Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Tommy, Ryan Guzman as Eddie, and Edy Ganem as Marisol.
What the preview sets up
TVLine’s April 6, 2024 preview, written by Andy Swift, describes the date as awkward. The complication is Eddie and Marisol’s unexpected arrival, which makes the encounter uncomfortable for Buck and Tommy. In the promo, Tommy notices that Buck is tense, and Buck answers with the line that frames the whole scene:
“This is my first date with a dude, but I’m not weirded out.”

The promo therefore builds the scene around two things at once: Buck’s nerves, and his growing recognition of his attraction to a man. The preview does not show how the evening ends. It only establishes that the date will be interrupted and that Buck is not as composed as his words suggest.
How the story reached this point
Coverage of the preceding episode gives useful context. In TVLine’s April 2024 recap of Season 7, Episode 4, showrunner Tim Minear said he wanted Buck’s new storyline to connect with characters and relationships viewers already knew. Minear also described the first date as going “a little… aground,” and said viewers “get to see their first date.” Those remarks come from Minear’s interview with TVLine, not from a production document.
