Discovery removed the U.S. Cartoon Network website in August 2024, according to Gizmodo’s report. Visitors were redirected to Max, where they were told to look for available episodes. The change concerned the website and its online collection—not the Cartoon Network television channel.
What happened to CartoonNetwork.com?
James Whitbrook reported for Gizmodo on August 9, 2024, that the former U.S. Cartoon Network website had been wiped and visitors sent to a Max sign-up page. The old site had offered clips and full episodes from shows such as Steven Universe, Teen Titans Go!, We Bare Bears and Adventure Time. Gizmodo described the removal as erasing years of history; that is the article’s framing, not a measure of how many copies of the material remain elsewhere.
The redirect told visitors: “Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required).” It also promoted a Max Kids Profile and said cable subscribers could keep watching Cartoon Network programming through television and connected apps.
Did the website change shut down the Cartoon Network channel?
No. The cited report documents the removal of the U.S. website and its redirect, not the end of the television channel or all Cartoon Network programming. Its redirect specifically pointed cable subscribers to television and connected apps as ways to continue watching.

What happened to the old Cartoon Network games?
The website had hosted Flash games connected to Cartoon Network shows. Gizmodo reported that many had already disappeared in earlier redesigns. As of its August 2024 report, some game archives could still be reached through international Cartoon Network websites in regions where Max was unavailable. That is a historical account, not confirmation those archives can be accessed today.
Are the old episodes and games available now?
The 2024 redirect directed viewers to check what was available on Max, with a subscription required; it did not promise that every episode previously on CartoonNetwork.com was available there. Availability can vary, and the report does not establish the current Max catalogue.
Cartoon Network’s device activation page currently describes the service as offering full episodes, video clips and games and carries a 2026 Warner Bros. Discovery copyright notice. That page does not show that the former U.S. website archive, its Flash games or the old free-access experience has been restored.
The Warner Bros. Discovery Archives describes collections of film, television, HBO, DC and animation assets. Its description does not identify the former Cartoon Network website or its games as a browsable web archive.

Why was the site removed?
Gizmodo placed the change in the context of Warner Bros. Discovery cost-cutting and noted the planned closure of Boomerang’s dedicated streaming service, with its library and subscribers moving to Max. Those are contextual points in the report, not a confirmed company explanation for the Cartoon Network website removal. The report did not quote a named executive explaining the decision.
