Vivienne Jolie-Pitt has petitioned a Los Angeles court to change her legal name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The petition listed the reason as “personal,” and the latest cited report said a hearing was scheduled for November 2, 2026. The available reports do not confirm that a judge granted the request, so her legal name change should not be described as complete.
What Vivienne’s petition says
The Los Angeles Times reported on July 22, 2026, that 18-year-old Vivienne asked Los Angeles County Superior Court to remove “Pitt” from her legal name, changing it from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The petition listed its reason as “personal”; that is not a fuller explanation of her motives. Los Angeles Times, July 22, 2026.
TheWrap reported that the petition was filed on July 21, nine days after Vivienne turned 18. Its August 21 procedural update said a hearing was set for November 2, 2026, and that notice of the petition had appeared in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on July 24, July 31, August 7 and August 14. TheWrap described newspaper publication as a required step in California’s name-change process. TheWrap, August 21, 2026.
Has Vivienne legally changed her name?
Not according to the cited reports. They describe a petition and a scheduled hearing, but do not report a final court decision. A request to change a legal name is not the same as a court-approved change. The latest reported hearing date was November 2, 2026; an outcome should not be inferred from the fact that the date was scheduled.

Why “Vivienne Jolie” appeared before the petition
In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for The Outsiders, which she co-produced with her mother, Angelina Jolie. That professional credit came before the 2026 court filing and does not establish that her legal name had already changed. Los Angeles Times, July 22, 2026.
How the reported status differs among her siblings
The siblings’ cases have separate outcomes and timelines. The Los Angeles Times reported in July 2026 that Shiloh’s request to drop Pitt from her name had been granted in August 2024, while Zahara’s and Maddox’s requests were pending hearings. Vivienne’s petition had its own hearing scheduled for November 2, 2026. One sibling’s result does not decide another’s case. Los Angeles Times, July 22, 2026; Los Angeles Times, August 20, 2024.

What the parents’ legal disputes do—and do not—establish
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reached a divorce settlement in December 2024 after years of proceedings. The Associated Press reported that the settlement did not resolve their separate lawsuit concerning Château Miraval, the French winery. Those matters are distinct from Vivienne’s personal name-change petition, and the cited coverage does not establish that either dispute caused or motivated her request. Associated Press, December 31, 2024.
