The announcement, published by Universal Music Brasil, presented the deal as a way for 2050 to join Virgin Music’s urban music team and help professionalize the segment. It does not disclose the contract’s length, exclusivity, financial terms, or distribution arrangements, and the public material covering the deal does not say whether it is still in force.
What was announced
The partnership was announced on 27 October 2022 in a virtual contract celebration. Universal Music Brasil’s report named Miguel Cariello, general director of Virgin Music Brasil, and André Mingau, manager of 2050 Records, as well as the label’s three founders, the producers Gustah, Pedro Lotto, and Wey. Collaborators also attended the event.
The announcement is the primary source for what the parties said at the time. It is a statement of intent. It does not describe what each side is obliged to do, how long the arrangement runs, or whether Virgin Music has rights to 2050’s catalogue or future releases.
Who is involved
- Miguel Cariello is identified in the announcement as general director of Virgin Music Brasil.
- André Mingau is identified as manager of 2050 Records, described as a career manager and entrepreneur.
- Gustah, Pedro Lotto, and Wey are identified as the producers who founded 2050 Records.
- Xamã and MC Don Juan were later named as Gustah’s collaborators on the label’s debut single, “Toda Malévola.”
The stated rationale
Universal Music Brasil described 2050 as a label looking for innovation, and said its experience with urban music artists complemented Virgin Music Brasil’s work. The stated aim was to help consolidate and professionalize the urban segment. These are the parties’ ambitions as published in 2022. No independent measurement of their results has been published.

Cariello tied the partnership to 2050’s work with artists in rap, trap, and funk, which he said were in high rotation on streets and streaming platforms. Other participants framed the deal in similar terms. The quotations below are translations from Portuguese, and the original wording is given in the source announcement.
- Miguel Cariello (Virgin Music Brasil): 2050 Records’ expertise with many powerful artists in the urban music field “only brightens our partnership.” (translation)
- Gustah (2050 Records founder): “Without a doubt this will be a positive and relevant alliance in the market, and I am very happy and excited to work together and make history!” (translation)
- André Mingau (2050 Records manager): “Super excited about this challenge, and certain that this partnership between 2050 Records and Virgin is going to shake up the market!” (translation)
What followed: documented releases
Later Universal Music Brasil release notices show that 2050 kept releasing music after the announcement. They do not show the terms of the 2022 deal, and in most cases they do not say how the releases were distributed.

| 16 December 2022 | “Toda Malévola,” performed by Gustah, Xamã, and MC Don Juan, described as 2050 Records’ debut single; video premiered on the label’s YouTube channel | The label’s first documented release after the deal | Chart, streaming, or sales results; whether Virgin Music handled distribution |

The March 2024 notice is the most recent documented item covering this partnership. Its wording describes a collaboration with Virgin Music Group, but it is one release, not evidence of an ongoing arrangement.
What the public record does not establish
- Contract length and renewal: not stated in the 2022 announcement or in later releases.
- Exclusivity and rights: not stated; it is unclear whether 2050 artists or catalogue are covered.
- Financial terms: no contract value, advance, revenue share, or royalty arrangement is published.
- Distribution: the announcements do not say which releases were distributed through Virgin Music channels.
- Performance: no sales, stream, or audience figures tied to the partnership are published. Promotional claims in later release notices are not independent measurements and should not be read as evidence of commercial impact.
- Current status: no public statement ends, renews, or confirms the agreement.
How to check the current status
- Start with the Universal Music Brasil announcement of 27 October 2022 and the release notices that followed, which are the only official statements tying the two companies together.
- Check the official channels of Virgin Music Brasil and Virgin Music Group for any later announcement of a renewal, ending, or change in scope.
- Check the label’s own channels and its producers’ official accounts for credits on new releases. Credits show who released a track, but they do not reveal contract terms.
- If you need to know whether a specific release falls under the Virgin arrangement, ask the label or the distributor directly. Public material does not answer that question.
Without a newer official statement, treat the Virgin Music Brasil and 2050 Records partnership as a documented 2022 announcement with a limited public record afterward, not as a confirmed current business relationship.
