Reviews praise Abhignya Vuthaluru’s lead performance and the rural atmosphere, but warn that the mystery can feel predictable and the pacing uneven. It is best suited to viewers drawn to a folklore-tinged crime investigation who can accept a less consistently tense journey.
What is Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting about?
When young brides begin dying in Viraatapalem, villagers explain the deaths as the result of a curse. Police constable Meena, played by Abhignya Vuthaluru, does not accept that explanation as a solution: she sets out to investigate what is happening. The series frames the curse as the villagers’ belief, not as an established supernatural fact.

The official episode descriptions sketch the investigation’s early turns: Meena arrives after Durga’s death, Malli later dies near a temple, and Meena tries to register a case before pursuing the deaths herself. Scroll’s review describes the village as having suffered bride deaths within a day of marriage for 15 years. Both Scroll and The Times of India place the story in the 1980s; ZEE5’s synopsis does not specify a decade. ZEE5 describes Viraatapalem as a fictional village.
How well does the mystery work?
The hook brings together village superstition and police work: the residents have an explanation, while Meena looks for a case she can investigate. That gives the show a clear rural-crime premise rather than making the curse itself the answer.
#1 Best Overall
Scroll’s June 28, 2025 review found the investigative payoff satisfactory, but said alert viewers may guess the method. The Times of India’s review, updated June 28, likewise faulted predictable writing. Taken together, those criticisms suggest that the central question may be more compelling than the mechanics of its eventual explanation.
Performances, atmosphere, and pacing
Abhignya Vuthaluru as Meena
Both cited reviews praise Vuthaluru’s performance as the constable at the center of the story. Scroll describes Meena as pressing ahead with Kittu, a tea seller played by Charan Lakkaraju, despite resistance from her bosses, powerful village men, and her mother. That resistance gives her investigation personal and institutional obstacles as well as a mystery to solve.
Rank #2
A rural setting with an uneven build
The Times of India review highlights the rural atmosphere and the blend of folklore and crime investigation. The reviews are less impressed by how steadily the suspense develops: The Times of India calls the tension uneven and the episodes sluggish, while Scroll argues that the story does not have enough material for seven episodes. These are individual critics’ assessments, not audience ratings or a measured consensus.
Is it worth watching?
Consider it if you want a short Telugu crime mystery with a village setting, a superstition-driven premise, and a central investigator whose performance reviewers singled out positively. Temper expectations if you need every episode to sustain a tight thriller rhythm or want a solution that remains difficult to anticipate. The cited reviews suggest that the show’s atmosphere and lead are stronger draws than its pacing or mystery construction.
