Taylor Swift does not literally swim beneath the stage. In the viral Eras Tour clip, she dives through an opening in the stage while screens show an animation of her swimming up the catwalk. Reports describe a landing cushion and a track- or sledge-like device carrying her beneath the stage, but the exact mechanism has not been confirmed in an official technical account.
What the video shows
The recording featured in the reports was filmed by concertgoer Carolina Guzman at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 2, 2023. Storyful’s video record says Swift points toward an opening, waves to the crowd, and dives in as the stage screens depict her swimming up the catwalk. The apparent swim is a screen effect synchronized with a real transition below the stage. The moving image makes the entrance look continuous, even though Swift disappears through the opening and travels out of sight.
What reports say happens under the stage
The landing
Entertainment Tonight’s April 4, 2023 report, based on Guzman’s video, describes an inflatable airbag inflating near the opening before the dive. It also reports that the opening changes from red to green when it is ready. These are details reported from the footage, not published stage specifications. Entertainment Tonight’s report

A 2024 account of behind-the-scenes footage in the “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” music video describes a soft platform below the stage and a person positioned to help Swift land. That account offers a second description of landing support, but neither report supplies an official safety or equipment specification. The Mary Sue’s account
The ride beneath the stage
The Mary Sue describes Swift riding a device resembling a balance beam on a track and suggests it may be propelled by a pulley. The pulley is speculation, not a confirmed detail. Industry publication ISE describes a high-speed, sledge-like device carrying Swift beneath the stage before she emerges in a new costume, but does not publish an engineering document identifying how the device works. So the best-supported explanation is that Swift makes a real descent and travels beneath the stage while the screens supply the swimming illusion. The sources describe the landing support and transport device, but do not establish their exact design, controls, or propulsion.

The dive is quick, and from some audience angles the opening and landing area are difficult to see. Guzman told Storyful, “She literally dives with such perfection and on point, every time she jumped I was scared she would hit her head.” That is the concertgoer’s reaction to the visual, not evidence of an accident or a technical safety assessment.
