Scroll’s April 15, 2024 video item, “Glimpses of Indian singer Sid Sriram’s debut performance at Coachella 2024,” is a short clip from Sriram’s first Coachella set, posted by the festival’s official Instagram account and embedded in Scroll’s report. It shows an English song influenced by Carnatic music. It is a glimpse, not the full performance. Sriram played on April 12, 2024, during the first weekend, and the wider set included Tamil material.
What the clip is and what it is not
The video is a short excerpt. Scroll embedded a post from Coachella’s official Instagram account in its story, and the subtitle describes the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada singer performing an English song influenced by Carnatic music. Nothing in the reports reviewed indicates that the embedded clip is a complete song or a full-set recording.
The clip is best read as a sample of one moment from the set. Coverage of the same performance draws its other details from separate reports, and those details are not visible in the Scroll clip itself.

Coachella 2024 ran over two weekends. Sriram’s debut fell in the first one. The dates below come from the Hindustan Times report published April 14, 2024, and the India Today report of April 22, 2024.

The April 19 date was described as scheduled when the Hindustan Times report was published. The reports reviewed do not confirm how the second appearance went, so readers should not treat the scheduled date as a documented outcome.

The sound of the clip: English R&B with Carnatic touches
Hindustan Times describes the Coachella-posted clip as an English R&B song with Carnatic touches. Carnatic is a classical music tradition from South India, and its phrasing and ornamentation are what the reports point to when they describe the clip’s influence. The English lyrics and R&B framing are what separate this excerpt from the Tamil material in the rest of the set.
Sriram’s own description, reproduced by India Today, places his background in the same tradition. He says he was born in Chennai, grew up in the Bay Area of California, and comes from “a discipline called Carnatic music.”
The wider set: Tamil songs and a religious closer
Hindustan Times reports that the wider set included “Do The Dance” and the Tamil song “Kannalanae,” which it describes as from Bombay. It attributes this repertoire information to Sriram’s team, so it reflects the artist’s side rather than an independent listing of the setlist.

The closing song: Thiruppugazh
India Today reports that Sriram closed his set with Thiruppugazh, an anthology of Tamil religious songs dedicated to Lord Murugan. In an Instagram post reproduced by the outlet, Sriram wrote that his mother had just taught him the piece, and he contrasted the moment with what his nine-year-old self would have expected. He also described himself as the first South Indian artist to play the festival.

The clip itself does not show this part of the set, so the closer is known only through the reports and Sriram’s own post.

The Scroll embed includes a viewer comment that asks, in Tamil-English, “Enna song idhu? Why isn’t he singing Kannaana Kanney…” which translates as “What song is this? Why isn’t he singing Kannaana Kanney?” That is one commenter’s question, not a view of the audience as a whole. The reports reviewed do not address it.
Watching the performance now
Coachella’s 2024 livestream was announced in YouTube’s official blog post of April 4, 2024. It said the livestream would begin April 12 at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET, covered six livestream stages, and that performance highlights would be available on demand on Coachella’s YouTube channel. That announcement explains how festival sets reached remote viewers in 2024. It does not establish whether this specific clip or any full-set recording is still online.

Because the event took place in April 2024, check Coachella’s official YouTube channel and the Scroll page for the current status of the embedded clip. The reports reviewed do not identify an official full-set recording.
