Its punchline is comedy, not an official account of the budget’s policies.
What does Garima Goel say in the budget parody?
Scroll’s subheading reproduces the video’s central line: “Let me summarise the summary… for the poor we have anda, for farmers and the educated unemployed, danda, and for capitalists, dhanda.” The Hindi rhyme links “anda” (egg), “danda” (stick), and “dhanda” (business) for comic effect.
The line is presented as a joke from the video, not as a policy statement by the Finance Minister. The available account identifies the premise and quotes this line; it does not establish a full transcript of the video.
Who is portrayed, and when was the video reported?
Scroll identifies the comedian as Garima Goel and the person she portrays as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Scroll published its video article on February 2, 2022, one day after Sitharaman delivered the Union Budget 2022–23 speech on February 1.
#1 Best Overall
How does the joke differ from the official budget record?
The parody compresses budget politics into a punchline. The Finance Ministry’s speech is the primary government record of what Sitharaman said and proposed. For instance, the speech gave the Ministry of Finance’s current-year economic growth estimate as 9.2 per cent; this was an estimate, not a final realised outcome.
Readers looking for the budget’s actual proposals can consult the Ministry of Finance’s Union Budget portal, which provides the speech, Budget Highlights, and other supporting documents. The quoted joke should not be used to infer the details of those policies.
