An eight-year-old violinist joined pianist Van Toan Lam at a train station to play Yiruma’s “River Flows in You,” according to a report published by Scroll.in on November 3, 2023. The report does not name the child or the station, and its publication date does not establish when the performance took place.
What happens in the video?
Scroll.in reports that Lam was playing piano at a train station when the child asked whether they could play “River Flows in You.” The report describes the child as eight years old. It does not identify the child or the station, give the performance date, or establish the exact arrangement played. The account is in Scroll.in’s November 3, 2023 report.
About “River Flows in You”
Yiruma’s official biography says the composition was included on his second album, First Love, released in 2001. The biography is available on Yiruma’s official website.
Can you find sheet music for the piece?
Faber Music’s official Yiruma SOLO piano collections include “River Flows in You.” The publisher offers an original piano arrangement and an easier version; the collections were published in 2021. These are piano scores, not evidence of the violin arrangement heard in the video, and the report does not say which, if any, score the performers used. See Faber Music’s page for the Yiruma SOLO collections. In its discussion of the collections, Faber Music attributes this reflection to Yiruma: “These works were the simplest way of capturing a specific moment and feeling when I wrote them.”
