Venom sacrifices himself during the Area 51 battle to destroy the xenophages and save Eddie Brock and Earth. Eddie survives, but the film treats their separation as a genuine goodbye. The credits then widen the story: Knull remains a threat, while a final stinger hints that symbiote material may have survived without confirming Venom’s return.
Does Venom die at the end?
Yes—Venom gives his life during the destruction of the Area 51 facility. When the xenophages overwhelm the site, he separates from Eddie and draws the creatures away. Venom uses the codex’s power to destroy the xenophages, but the act kills him as the facility is consumed.
Eddie escapes while Venom stays behind. The movie does not show an immediate healing, rescue or reunion. Sony’s official film description presents the pair’s final decision as devastating and frames the film as the concluding chapter of their trilogy.
Why Venom makes that choice
Venom’s sacrifice completes the partnership’s emotional arc. He began as an alien sharing Eddie’s body for survival, but he ends as Eddie’s friend, choosing Eddie’s life and the safety of Earth over his own. The loss matters because the film lets Eddie continue without the voice and presence that defined his recent life.

- In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel?s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie's last dance.
What happens to Eddie Brock?
Eddie survives the Area 51 catastrophe and eventually reaches New York. His final scene shows him looking at the Statue of Liberty, the destination Venom had wanted to visit. Eddie is alone, carrying the memory of his partner rather than standing beside him.
The scene is deliberately personal and final in tone. It confirms Eddie’s survival but does not explain his long-term career, legal situation or next adventure. Most importantly, the released film does not depict Eddie and Venom reuniting.

What happens in the mid-credits scene?
The mid-credits sequence cuts back to Knull. He remains imprisoned after the main story, so he has not escaped into the world during this film. He does, however, appear directly and promises further destruction.
That scene is a villain introduction and a continuation hook, not proof that a particular sequel has been approved, titled or dated. Knull’s presence leaves a larger cosmic conflict available to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe while the Eddie–Venom story reaches its intended endpoint.

Who is Knull?
Knull is the ancient creator and ruler associated with the symbiotes. In The Last Dance, the audience sees only a limited part of his larger threat: he is confined, aware of events and still seeking release and destruction. The film does not resolve his imprisonment or reveal the complete shape of a future campaign.
Does Venom come back after the credits?
The post-credits scene does not confirm that Venom has returned. It shows the bartender alive after the Area 51 disaster, followed by a broken vial and a cockroach near possible symbiote residue. Those images suggest that some symbiote material may remain, but the film never identifies it as Venom.

The identity, condition and future of the possible remnant are left unresolved. Director Kelly Marcel told Forbes in October 2024 that she would not explain the final stinger because it needed to remain open to interpretation. A survival theory is therefore possible, but it is not an established plot fact.
What the two endings establish—and what they leave open
| Resolved by the film | Left unresolved |
|---|---|
| Venom sacrifices himself and saves Eddie and Earth. | Whether any surviving symbiote material is Venom. |
| Eddie reaches New York and survives alone. | Eddie’s future after the Statue of Liberty scene. |
| The Eddie–Venom partnership receives a goodbye. | How or when Knull could continue his campaign. |
| Knull remains imprisoned at the end of the main story. | Whether Sony will make a specific follow-up film. |
Is there a Venom 4?
No announced Venom 4 release or dated follow-up is established by the ending information available here. Marcel has repeatedly described Eddie and Venom as a planned three-film arc. In a GameSpot interview published October 25, 2024, she said: “We always saw it as a three-story arc, and we always knew where it was going to end, and it’s something that we thought about from the first Venom.”

That statement explains the trilogy’s creative design; it is not an announcement of a fourth film. Marcel also told Den of Geek on October 24, 2024, that Knull’s appearance was “just a little introduction to Knull” and “just a little taster,” adding that she knew of plans for future Knull movies because he could not simply appear once and be finished. Those comments describe creative intent and possible franchise direction, not a confirmed title, production schedule or release date.
Does this change Sony’s Spider-Man Universe?
The ending operates on two levels. On the character level, it closes Eddie and Venom’s story with a sacrifice, separation and memory. On the franchise level, Knull’s continued existence and the ambiguous symbiote trace preserve options for future stories.
That distinction is important. The movie establishes a possible direction for the wider universe, but it does not provide a complete roadmap, confirm a Spider-Man crossover or prove that Venom will return. The phrase that the universe “will never be the same” works as promotional language for an open-ended threat, not as evidence of a specific change that the film has already announced.
Why the ending is intentionally ambiguous
Venom’s death is presented clearly enough to deliver emotional closure, while the credits scenes prevent the mythology from becoming completely closed. Eddie gets a goodbye rather than a reunion; Knull gets a warning rather than a defeat; and the final stinger offers a clue without an answer.
That balance allows the trilogy to function as a finished Eddie–Venom story even if Sony later chooses to develop the symbiote mythology. Until an official announcement identifies a project and its status, the possible remnant and Knull’s threat should be treated as open story hooks rather than confirmed sequels.
