Veeru Devgan, the veteran Hindi-film stuntman, action choreographer and filmmaker, died in Mumbai on the morning of May 27, 2019. He was Ajay Devgn’s father. Reports at the time credited him with choreographing action in more than 80 Hindi films and identified Hindustan Ki Kasam (1999), starring Ajay, as his directorial debut.
What happened
Multiple reports published on May 27, 2019, said Devgan died in Mumbai that morning. The Indian Express and Cinema Express described him as an action choreographer and filmmaker; Filmfare reproduced a statement attributed to the Devgan family confirming his death. This is a historical report, not a recent event.
The Tribune reported that the cause of death was not immediately known. Reports mentioning breathlessness and hospital admission do not, on their own, establish a medical cause, so no cause should be treated as confirmed.
His work in Hindi cinema
Cinema Express reported in 2019 that Devgan choreographed fight and action scenes in more than 80 Hindi films. That is a reported career count, not an independently audited filmography. The outlet named Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Kranti (1981), Himmatwala (1983), Mr India (1987) and Phool Aur Kaante (1991) among his action credits.

Cinema Express reproduced a tribute from senior stunt director Sham Kaushal, who recalled that Devgan signed his application to become a stuntman in 1980 and brought him into his team. Kaushal remembered him as an action director ahead of his time and praised him as a person; the account is Kaushal’s recollection.

Contemporary accounts disagree: Cinema Express gave Devgan’s birth year as 1941, while The Tribune said he was 77 when he died on May 27, 2019. Because those details conflict, his age should not be stated as settled.
