The statement acknowledged public tributes while setting a clear boundary: the family asked for privacy as they mourned. It did not share further details about their private grief.
Tom Cruise’s CinemaCon tribute
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 3, Cruise remembered Kilmer as a dear friend and praised his work in the original Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick. As ABC News reported, Cruise said, “I can’t tell you how much I admire his work, how grateful and honored I was when he joined ‘Top Gun’ and came back later for ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’” then invited the audience to share a moment of silence. He closed with: “I wish you well on the next journey.”
