In a November 18, 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor presents Jamie’s future without John as an open question—not a forecast of how the story ends.
Why Bentley describes Jamie as dangerous
Bentley’s word “dangerous” refers to Jamie’s precarious position, not simply to a fixed trait in his personality. He says Jamie has taken “a big, wild swing” and believes that if it goes badly, “it’s probably over.” In Bentley’s reading, that combination makes Jamie unpredictable: he has committed to a consequential move, and he sees the stakes as potentially final.
The comment is Bentley’s interpretation of Jamie at this point in the story. It does not establish what Jamie will do next or what the outcome of his gamble will be.
Spoilers: the Beth–Jamie confrontation
The interview was published ahead of the final stretch of Season 5B and discusses a confrontation after John’s death. Its recap says Beth confronts Jamie in his office because she believes he is responsible. She slaps him repeatedly while he cannot meet her eyes, then leaves with the proof she sought. The recap also describes Beth attacking Jamie’s girlfriend, Sarah, and later telling Kayce what she believes about Jamie’s role.

Those events supply the immediate context for the siblings’ conflict; they should not be confused with Bentley’s separate comments about Jamie’s inner life or treated as an answer to every later plot question.
How John shaped Jamie’s sense of self
Bentley describes Jamie as marked by “the self-loathing and the emptiness, the shallowness,” and says he is “lost and has no identity whatsoever.” These are the actor’s character interpretation, not an objective diagnosis. Bentley connects that perceived lack of identity to John: “John is the one who told him who to be.”

In Bentley’s account, Jamie’s ambition and sense of self have been directed toward winning John’s approval, even though John was never satisfied once Jamie became the person he had been told to be. That leaves a consequential question if John is gone: who, or what, is Jamie aiming at now?

Bentley does not disclose what Jamie becomes without John. He raises the possibility as a question, rather than promising a particular transformation, redemption, or ending. The interview is useful for understanding the pressure and uncertainty Bentley sees in Jamie before the final episodes, but it cannot establish what happens after that point.
A separate CBR interview listing dated December 15, 2024 names subjects including fan reactions, scenes with Kelly Reilly, and whether Jamie could have a happy ending. The available listing does not establish Bentley’s detailed answers, so it cannot be used to fill in the future he left open.
