“Ukulele: Grade 1 | PDF” most closely refers to RSL Awards’ Ukulele Grade 1 exam book. It combines repertoire, supporting tests and audio resources, with PDF sheet music among its digital materials. The sample is not the full book or a complete statement of the exam syllabus. Do not treat the exercises shown in it as the entire list of requirements or as permission to reproduce the copyrighted material.
Check the edition and any erratum
The RSL product page displays an erratum for page 38, Technical Exercises Group A, Scales: “C major on 3rd and 4th strings” was updated to “C major pentatonic on 3rd and 4th strings.” The correction is dated 13 July 2022. Check the live page and your copy’s edition before relying on that correction, since product information can change.

Grade 1 means different things across exam providers
RSL, London College of Music Examinations (LCM) and MTB Exams publish separate ukulele syllabuses. Their requirements should not be combined into one Grade 1 checklist. The comparison below is limited to the cited editions; use each provider’s current materials when choosing or preparing for an exam.

LCM recorded-exam musicianship is format-specific
LCM’s December 2023 guidance for recorded exams asks Grade 1 candidates to identify the time and key signatures of a chosen melody or rhythm study; play and name notes at fret 2 on the C string and fret 3 on the E string; and identify the tuners, bridge, fretboard and each open string. These questions belong to LCM’s recorded-exam guidance, not to every provider’s Grade 1 exam. See LCM’s recorded-exam musicianship questions.

How to choose the right preparation material
- Identify the exam provider. Confirm whether the candidate is preparing for RSL, LCM, MTB or another route before selecting a book or syllabus.
- Match the resource to the edition and format. For an RSL exam, use the RSL Grade 1 book and current RSL guidance; for another board, consult that provider’s syllabus and any format-specific instructions.
- Use the sample for orientation, not as the whole course. It illustrates how RSL presents notation, tablature and exercises, while the product page describes additional content.
- Check corrections and current availability. Review the live product page for errata, formats and purchase options rather than assuming an older listing remains current.
